Are you beginning to feel a bit like The Hunchback of Notre Dame from years of thumping away at a computer and craning your neck to thumb away on a smartphone?
Do you carry tension from the pressures that life throws your way, or feel tight when you wake up in the morning?
Just like you would pencil in a workout or a nail appointment, maybe it’s time to consider adding an assisted stretch to your regular routine.
Love at First Stretch
Lynell D’Sylva had the luxury of experiencing an assisted stretch at a StretchLab while vacationing in California. “The feeling I had when I got off the bench was one of freedom and opening up.”
Lynell wanted our Frisco community to enjoy the same amazing benefits she experienced in that first stretch session. Although there are a number of fitness facilities and trainers in our area, there wasn’t a dedicated place here to receive a focused, assisted stretch.
Lynell was inspired to open the Cali-inspired StretchLab here in Frisco, at the SW corner of the Dallas North Tollway and Stonebrook Pkwy.
Redefining the Stretch
You probably perform some type of stretch at the end of your favorite HIIT, cycle, or yoga flow class, but you may not hold the stretch long enough to allow the body to actually recover from the workout. This is where an assisted stretch comes in to play. StretchLab explains the assisted stretch this way:
One on one stretching is about identifying tightness and imbalances in your body and customizing a stretch routine that is just for you. Our clients may come in with pain, tightness or specific focus areas, but keep coming back and commit to their flexibility journey once they experience the freedom that comes with having a wider range of motion and flexibility.
The reasons that people seek the support of StretchLab vary greatly. Some clients are looking to improve their performance, some are looking to decrease muscle tension, and others simply just want a great, relaxing stretch.
The sessions are customized one-on-one stretches performed by a Flexologist. During their required 60-70+ hours of theory and hands-on training, StretchLab Flexologists learn the muscular system, a variety of assisted stretches, and how to work with a variety of clients with varying concerns.
The Flexologist will utilize myofascial techniques, positions, and stretches to address problematic muscles in the body that are stiff, knotted, and stressed.
Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt! Your Flexologist will communicate with you throughout your stretch to gauge your comfort level.
At StretchLab, the experts utilize the PNF Method, or Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation. Originally developed as a form of rehabilitation, PNF stretching is a more advanced form of flexibility training that involves both the stretching and contracting of the muscle group being targeted.
During a session, the experts will combine the PNF approach along with dynamic and static stretching to help improve muscular strength and increase your overall range of motion.
Stretching is like a lost art and something many people disregard. While you might be thinking that you can perform stretches at home for free, let’s be honest.
Who takes the time to thoroughly stretch or foam roll after every workout? Even if you do, every day can bring with it daily stressors that cause your muscles to tense up.
The beauty of an assisted stretch is that it will work through those contracted muscles and stimulate them to relax. Assisted stretches also help improve your flexibility, relieve general aches and pain, and correct body imbalances. Furthermore, the sessions also help improve blood flow circulation and oxygen to the muscles.
While I’ve always relied on yoga and massages to keep my body stretched out, I still tend to struggle with muscular skeletal pain. I decided to try the new Stretch Lab in Frisco and was pleasantly surprised by how I felt post-stretch.
When I walked through the door, I had a headache and kinks in my left shoulder and neck. After a session with the Flexologist, I left without the kink in my neck, and headache-free. Amazing! I also felt completely relaxed, inside and out.
Ready to Loosen Things Up?
If you’re shy to commit to a contract, you can drop into StretchLab at your leisure and pay a one-time fee. For those who prefer regularly scheduled appointments and the long-term benefits that accompany them, consider the membership options that allow you to stretch four or eight times per month.
For a one-on-one appointment, you can choose the 25-minute session, which is shorter and focuses on major muscles groups of the core, back, shoulders, and hips. Or, try StretchLab’s 50-minute stretches when you’re feeling a bit haggard from daily life stressors or from too much time spent training at the gym. This is a deeper and more intensive stretch that focuses on the entire body from head-to-toe.
StretchLab also offers group sessions (for up to six people, still allowing for individualized attention). The trainers will guide the group through a series of seated and standing stretches.
During these sessions, you’ll utilize props such as yoga straps to help increase flexibility and range of motion, as well as foam rollers to work out knots and tight muscles. These sessions are recommended for newbies and active, older adults.
Power Stretch is perfect for all you exercise enthusiasts or athletes that never take a day off from working out. This class utilizes the PNF stretching method along with dynamic and static stretches. You’ll also utilize foam rollers and lacrosse-style balls to break down the knotted fascia.
StretchLab Frisco is transforming the lives of our clients through their dedicated and highly customized stretching routine. For all ages, all fitness levels, and all flexibility levels, the StretchLab experience is like no other.
