It’s been several months since I started my journey through Frisco to seek out the best “Watering Holes” in the area – Happy Hours, cocktails, beer and just all around great places to unwind.
My latest expedition has me looking at some local places in a different light. Instead of taps, bottles, and cocktails, I decided to find the best appetizers, small plates, bites, and late-night munchies in Frisco.
There’s been a significant influx of restaurants in the area lately, between The Star, Legacy Hall, and new spots all along the North Platinum Corridor. There are simply too many great appetizers among them to list here, so we’ve narrowed it to a handful of places that offer great cocktails AND better-than-average bites. First Round Draft
First Round Draft is new to Frisco Square and is gaining popularity as a neighborhood bar. Besides the patio and the great drinks, First Round Draft offers snacks and food until 1:00 am every night. With items like BYO Chicken Sandwich, Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese Curds Nachos and Buffalo Wings with the famous Iron Pig Sauce, you won’t feel a need to leave in search of dinner. Their central location in Frisco Square makes it a nice close-to-home snacking spot, and will be really convenient if you attend Music in the Square this summer!
The Heritage Table
Besides the great atmosphere of this 100-year-old home-turned-restaurant, large wrap-around patio, and amazing brunch and dinner options, Heritage Table has some great cocktails to help you relax.
If it’s local beer you’re in the mood for you can choose from a rotating selection from Rhar & Sons, Bitter Sisters and more. If it’s Happy Hour you’re looking for, check out “Half Price Cocktail Thursday.” Or maybe wine is more of your thing, in which case come out to “Wine Wednesdays” and enjoy half-off bottles of wine all day.
Of course you’re going to need something to munch on while you’re sipping on that glass of wine. The Heritage Table has a unique assortment of fully made-from-scratch starters that are a far cry from staple appetizers you might find in a chain restaurant. Try the “Trio of Dips” – homemade pimiento cheese, hummus, and feta dips, served with homemade tortilla chips. Or, try the unexpected and delicious Deviled Eggs, the Spicy Queso Chicken Biscuit, or the Avocado Toast.
The Common Table
There’s really nothing common about it. It’s a unique experience with good people, good food and really good beer to match. The Common Table in Frisco is the second location (the first is in Dallas) and has found it’s home at The Star.
Owners Rodman Shields, Corey Pond and Mark Hearl have created a place where you can enjoy a local beer but not have to settle for everyday bar food. This restaurant not only boasts a huge food and brew menu and some of the best live music in Frisco but they also have a large patio where you can enjoy it all.
Pair their Bison meatballs, Chicken Lollipops, or Philly Cheese Steak Egg Rolls with one of their carefully poured beers or unique cocktails.
Bottled In Bond
Bottled In Bond is a whiskey and bourbon lovers paradise. The name itself is rich with drinking history as it comes from The Bottled in Bond Act of 1897…referencing American-made liquor that has been aged and bottled according to a set of legal regulations contained in the US government’s standards of identity for distilled spirits – specifically Whiskey.
It’s clear they take pride in their concept and who they are from the staff, decor, the cocktails – but also the food. They’ve designed a Happy Hour for the after work crowd as well as for late night.
Monday thru Friday they offer a special Happy Hour menu. If late night is more your thing, try the “Bonded Hour,” Fridays and Saturdays 11:oo pm-1:00 am. Here you can try some “Late Night Bites” like the Tipsy Cheese Plate, Salmon Taco, or the 4 oz Beef Filet. These are just some of the specialty items that appear on the late-night menu.
eight | 11 place
An “Austin style” wine bar in historic downtown Frisco, eight | 11 is one of the many renovated historic homes-turned-businesses in The Rail District, and offers a rotating collection of wines, locally brewed beers, and a selection of “Shareables” to add some flavor to your happy hour.
Customers rave about their Bacon and Blue chips (bacon, crumbled blue cheese, shaved parmesan, drizzles with balsamic glaze and served on gourmet potato chips). Other shareables include the Brie and Apple Crostini Board, and Smoked Salmon Board. Many people say their Artisan-style pizza is the hands-down the best in Frisco, with really unique flavors like the Pineapple Pig, and Pesto Chicken. If you’re looking to share something sweet, try the S’mores Board.
I’m sure as I write this I will have visited at least three more places to add to the list, but these options should be enough to get you started on a journey to discovering YOUR favorite spot to eat, drink and be merry in Frisco.
