Keep up with the action all season long: 2014 Frisco High School Football Schedules and Results

For the third-straight week, the top spot in District 9-5A has changed hands, but has remained within the realm of Frisco ISD.

W Frisco Lone Star (6-2, 4-2) @ Frisco Heritage (5-2, 3-2)—52-27

As is becoming increasingly well-known all around the state, the key to stopping Lone Star’s top flight offense lays in corralling Jason Shelley. Also of common knowledge is that any containment of Shelley is quite difficult.

For anyone doubting this dilemma, just ask Frisco Heritage. Jason Shelley had a combined 533 total yards of offense (370 yards passing, 163 yards running) to almost single-handedly hand the Coyotes just their second loss of the season (while stopping the Rangers own two-game skid).

With numbers like what Shelley put up this past week, it’s no surprise that he was picked as the Dallas Morning News’ Offensive Player of the Week. Frisco Heritage was led by QB Malik Walker (223 yds passing, TD), RB Kene Nwangwu (60 yds rushing, TD) and WR Bubba Ogbebor (109 yds receiving, TD).

W Frisco Wakeland (6-1, 4-1) @ Frisco Centennial (5-2, 4-1)—42-41

Well, if you’re the type who likes a well-paced game that is highlighted by goal line stops and complex defensive schemes that shut down even the most adnavnced of offenses, then last Friday night’s Centennial and Wakeland matchup just wasn’t for you…but if you like TDs as frequent as toasts on New Year’s Eve, then, well, you get the idea.

Last week’s colossal collision between two of the Metroplex’s better football teams will be spoken of for years to come, no doubt. We all knew it could be a high-scoring affair, but who could have guessed that the game would be decided by a blocked extra point…in overtime?

Centennial’s Court Walker completed just 48% of his passes, but exactly half of those 12 catches were caught for TDs. All told, Walker had 318 yards in the air with 6 TDs. Naturally, when a QB has a big night, usually a WR was there to help. Devin McCord hauled in 224 yards with 3 TDs. RB Anthony Pegues came just shy of the 200 yard mark with 182 yds on the night.

Frisco Wakeland had no problems with the scoring either as QB Jimmy Wilkins tossed 3 TDs while compiling 229 totals yards of offense. But it was the running game that really stood out as Brent Altieri and Jay Orji combined for 253 yards rushing.

L Frisco Liberty (3-4 , 2-3) @ The Colony (5-3 , 3-3)—11-19

The Colony Cougars’ strategy isn’t too complex. It’s fundamentally sound, however: just put together a defense that consists of athletic ball hounds, and make sure you have a strong running game in place.

Check and Double-check.

The Cougars’ Josh Chow (73 yds rushing) and Khalil Banks (172 yds rushing, 2 TDs) made sure the running game was good to go, and the defense took care of the rest. The Liberty RedHawks were held to just 104 total yards of offense; highlighted by Lyric Green’s lone catch which netted him 55 yards.

L Frisco Independence (1-7, 0-6) @ Frisco High (4-3 , 3-2)—21-56

For the third week in a row, the Independence Knights have managed to put a substantial amount of points on the board. Their defense, however, continues to feel the impact of District 9-5A’s formidable offenses.

The Knights aren’t alone when they have trouble stopping the Raccoons’ elite running attack.  Frisco’s usual suspects all big nights as Paul Terry (153 yds, 3 TDs) and Christian McKory (124 yds) ran rampant; with WR Dayton Bush making the most of his one reception—as he hauled it in for a 77-yard score.

L Frisco Legacy Christian (3-4, 0-4) @ Carrollton Prince of Peace Christian (3-4, 2-2)—20-26

Not even a big night from the Two Chases could save Legacy Christian from dropping their fourth-straight district game.

Chase Eisenmann (160 yds, TD) once again ran rampant, raising his ’14 totals to over 1,000 yards. Chase Moake managed 209 combined yards and rushed for a TD. In the end though, it was CPOPC’s John Bloom (266 yds, TD) provided enough offense for the Eagles to hold for the victory.
