Things are looking good for Frisco ISD hoops fans, as six of eight Frisco High Schools stand a good chance of making a postseason splash for the UIL Boys and Girls Basketball Playoffs.
District 9-5A Girls Basketball Playoff Preview
Frisco Liberty (29-3, 16-0)
The Lady RedHawks are once again having a season for the ages. Ranked by the Dallas News as the number one team in 5A, they are running away with their district and are poised for yet another deep postseason push.
Rebecca Lescay is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 14 points per contest with 6.6 total rebounds. Majestie Robinson is not far behind, putting down 13.3 ppg and 3.4 rpg.
Liberty starts their trek towards state tonight, as they take on Lovejoy (14-16) with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at Allen High School.
Frisco Centennial (23-9, 10-6)
Centennial had a chance to enter the playoffs as the number two seed, but a season finale loss to The Colony handed them the third seed.
The Lady Titans will take on McKinney High (21-8) for the Region II UIL Bi-district round of the playoffs this Tuesday at 6:00 p.m at Anna High School.
Centennial has been led all season by Mallory Adams, who is averaging 18 points per game, while grabbing 10.1 rebounds per matchup.
Frisco High (17-11, 9-7)
The Frisco High Lady Raccoons claimed the fourth and final UIL Bi-district playoff seed when they beat Little Elm last Friday night, 49-36. Christina Mason (15 pts) and Eden Bohanon (15 pts) led all players in points scored, together putting down just six points fewer than the entire Lobos’ squad.
The Lady Raccoons face McKinney North (26-6) this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Anna High School.
District 9-5A Boys Basketball
Whereas all seedings are final, and Bi-district round matchups have been decided for Girls Hoops, the Boys Playoffs are still a few days away, and most teams have one regular season game remaining. In District 9-5A, this final matchup is crucial in seeding, where there are four teams vying for the fourth and final spot.
Playoff Locks:
Frisco Liberty (27-1, 14-1)
Just like the Lady RedHawks, Liberty’s boys team is tearing up the North Texas basketball world. With just one loss, coming at the hands of district foe Frisco Lone Star last month, the RedHawks are heavy favorites for a deep playoff push through UIL this year.
Dynamic Reggie Chaney leads the charge, averaging 12.7 ppg, with seven rebounds per game to boot. Carter Brown is also a scoring threat, putting down just south of 10 ppg (9.8), while averaging 2.9 assists per game.
Liberty’s final game of the regular should be an excellent one, as they take on the aforementioned Lone Star Rangers. Pride is on the line as the RedHawks try to avenge their lone loss by taking down the only team to defeat them.
Frisco Lone Star (22-5, 12-3)
The Lone Star Rangers are a very solid team, and one that could definitely fly deep in the playoffs if they got hot. What better way to channel some momentum heading into the playoffs than to defeat top-ranked Liberty – ranked seventh in Area 5A – for the second time this season?
The Rangers are led by Camden Craddock (13.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and Zach Brown (11.6 ppg, 2.2 apg). Don’t overlook Cameron Gooden (10.3 ppg), who can put some points on the board, and carry the team in a pinch.
Frisco Centennial (18-9, 10-5)
Centennial, the third seed in District 5-9A, will have a direct say in determining the fourth and final district seed in the 2015 UIL Playoff bracket. They’ll play Heritage tomorrow, with a chance to eliminate the Coyotes from contention.
This should be an excellent tune-up for the postseason, as Heritage will be playing with a definite playoff mentality.
The Titans are led by Senior guard Nolan Ritchie, who averages just under 10 points per game.
Contenders for the 4th slot:
Frisco High, The Colony and Frisco Heritage

Frisco High (19-8, 8-7) plays The Colony (17-14, 8-7) to finish out the regular season this Tuesday at The Colony.
The Raccoons handed the Cougars a 20-point beat-down during their first matchup of district play last month. If the Raccoons can pull off the repeat win, they’ll effectively eliminate The Colony, as they will have beaten them head-to-head.
However, should The Colony win, they’ll play Frisco Heritage 17-10, 8-7) in a one game play-in for the fourth seed, since they split their two district games this year – T.C. beat Heritage 63-51, but lost last week, 60-54.
Should Heritage lose to the third-seeded Titans in their finale – as they did a few weeks ago, 53-34 – they’ll be eliminated from playoff contention, and the winner of the fourth seed will be decided by the outcome of the Frisco versus The Colony game this Tuesday…
Playoff implications before the playoffs – you’ve got to love that!
