Keep up with the action all season long: 2014 Frisco High School Football Schedules and Results

Now that most teams are at the halfway point of district play, the playoff picture is beginning to become clearer.  Frisco Lone Star and Frisco Centennial are the lone teams undefeated atop the standings, but Frisco High is close at their heels. Here’s a look at the Week 6 match ups for District 9-5A.

Frisco Heritage (3-1, 1-1) @ Frisco High (3-2, 2-1)—Fri., 10/03 @ 7:00 PM @ Toyota Stadium

CoyotesHelmet

CoonsHelmetFresh off a Week 5 bye, the Coyotes will take their top-ranked offense (410.5 ypg; first in District 9-5A) to Toyota Stadium for an “away” home game against the Raccoons and their third-ranked total defense (245.6 ypg).

For Heritage to move ahead of Frisco High in the district rankings, they’ll have to stop a Raccoons’ offense that is averaging a whopping 379 yards per game on the ground—this means finding a way to stop the 5A Area’s top running back, Paul Terry (993 yards, 12 TDs).

Frisco Lone Star (5-0, 3-0) @ The Colony (3-2, 1-2)—Fri., 10/03 @ 7:00 PM @ Cougars Stadium

GOTW2014b

The Week 6 Game of the Week pits the well-balanced offense and top-ranked defense of the Lone Star Rangers against The Colony’s run-only offense and highly athletic defense.

Frisco Lone Star is the most balanced team in District 9-5A. They average just under 400 yards per game offensively (395.6) and have allowed a mere 171.8 yards of total offense per game from their opponents. On defense, the Rangers are equally adept at stopping the pass, (100.7 ypg) as they are the run (114 ypg). This is certainly the recipe for a 5-0 start.

The Colony Cougars are second in the district in run-suppression (just a tick behind Lone Star), allowing just 115.2 yards per game. When it comes to defending the pass, though, the Cougars have had some problems—156 ypg allowed, fifth in the district. So, you can crunch the numbers however you want, but the game strategy for The Colony is a simple one: Stop Jason Shelley; as we all know, he can run you ragged out of the pocket (470 yds, 8 TDs), and as we learned last week, he can beat you with his arm too.

Frisco Wakeland (3-1, 1-1) @ Little Elm (1-4, 1-2)—Fri., 10/03 @ 7:00 PM @ Lobos Field

WoverinesHelmet

The Wakeland Wolverines hit the road for Little Elm this Friday night. They’ll bring with them a defense that has allowed an average of 166 yards per game thru their first four games.

The porous run defense could present an opportunity for Little Elm’s star running back, Ryan Fink (402 yds, 6 TDs), to have a big game. However, it is unlikely that the Lobos defense (364 yds allowed per game) can stop RB Brent Altieri (513 yds, 513 yds, 6 TDs) and a Wolverines offense that is averaging 401.8 yards per game, second-best in the district.

Frisco Independence (1-4, 0-3) @ Frisco Centennial (2-2, 2-0)–Fri., 10/03 @ Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium

TitansHelmetAs is expected for a brand new school with a very young core, the inaugural football season has been rough for the Independence Knights. Since district play got underway, the Knights have averaged just 2.6 points per game—while surrendering a whopping 51.1 points.

Frisco Centennial, on the other end of the spectrum, has not lost a district game yet; a trend that should continue tonight. The Titans have put up an average of 36 points per game over their first two district matches, and might be able to drop 40 on the Knights tonight.

Frisco Legacy Christian (3-1, 0-1) @ Tyler All Saints (3-1, 1-0)—Fri., 10/03 @ 7:00 PM

LegacyHelmet

The Legacy Christian Eagles, easily the most talented team in their district last year, have just one district game under their belts, but have now witnessed what the jump from Division I to Division II can entail. Perhaps the biggest difference is that with larger private schools, the talent pool is much deeper. This was never more evident than in last week’s loss to Grace Community.

The Trojans of Tyler All Saints don’t have quite the running game of last week’s Cougars of Grace Community, but they do have plenty of viable weapons in option QB Matt Brunson and RB Jace Evans. Legacy has plenty of offense for the challenge, but the true test will be in if the Eagles defense can keep the Cougars’ offense contained.
