Frisco High School Baseball: Liberty RedHawks to Take on Frisco ‘Coons in Reg. Qtr. Finals

The race for State continues for two of Frisco ISD’s finest. Just two series wins away from a trip to Austin, this upcoming matchup features two teams with plenty of history.

Fresh off convincing Area Round wins that saw their opponents score nary a run off their pitching staffs, it’s onward and upward to the 2014 UIL Region II Regional Quarterfinals for Frisco Liberty and Frisco High.

Raccoons Beat Up Bulldogs; Sweep North Dallas

The Raccoon is a curious nocturnal creature, known for its striking facial features. And after Frisco High was done with North Dallas, well, the Raccoons weren’t the only ones leaving the field with black eyes.

Frisco feasted on the Bulldogs’ pitching, while also managing to completely shutdown any semblance of offense from the Bulldogs.

After the Raccoons won game one against North Dallas 4-0, they were actually just getting warmed up. Frisco High School put an exclamation point on the series by dishing out yet another shutout win, 6-0, over the offensively challenged Bulldogs of North Dallas.

The Area Round proved smooth sailing for the ‘Coons, but there are certainly treacherous waters ahead in the upcoming Regional Quarterfinals.

RedHawks Rout Bryan Adams in One-Game Playoff

Sometimes, when a coach wins a coin toss, he’ll opt for a one-game playoff rather than attempt his luck in a best-of-three series. Oftentimes, this is used by a coach that has one stud pitcher, or simply doesn’t think that his team matches up well against the opposition over a three-game series.

This one-game philosophy is what was employed by Bryan Adams Head Coach Bob Allison , and to say his plan backfired is akin to saying that Alec Baldwin might be a touch insensitive.

RHP Josh Ryan was his usual stellar self, and the Bryan Adams Cougars had little chance of getting back in this game, which Liberty won easily, 11-0. The one game winner-takes-all paved the way for RedHawks matchup with fellow District 9-4A combatant, the stalwart Frisco High Raccoons.

REDvsCOO

There is plenty of back story to this matchup, as both teams are quite familiar with each other. The RedHawks won District 9-4A in convincing fashion, and the Raccoons snuck into postseason play with the fourth and final seed.

In their two meetings this season, Frisco Liberty won both. In March, they picked up the 3-2 win thanks in large part to key extra-base hits by Brian Simpson and Justin Crider. The Raccoons were aided by a home run from Ryan Vilade, but that ultimately wasn’t enough.

Almost one month ago, the RedHawks were able to defeat the ‘Coons once again, and in convincing fashion—as they walked away with a 9-2 victory. Josh Miller earned the win.

Game 1: 8:00 PM, Thursday @ Liberty

Game 2: 8:00 PM, Friday @ Frisco High
