Keep up with the action all season long: 2014 Frisco High School Football Schedules and Results

Week 7 brings of Frisco ISD football to the fold the latest leader of District 9-5A head-to-head with the recently vanquished head honcho.  That, plus two “dark horses” that move into second place or possibly first with a win and the “right” teams losing…

Frisco Heritage (4-1, 2-1) @ Frisco Independence (1-5, 0-4)—Thurs., 10/09 @ 7:00 PM @ Toyota Stadium

CoyotesHelmetIndependenceKnightsLogoAs the Independence Knights know all too well, it’s not always fun being the new kids on the block. And although they’ve allowed over 50 points per game in district, they’ve managed to keep their chins up while getting their first taste of the competitive nature of football in the Lone Star State.

During their thrilling win last week against Frisco High, the Coyotes did all the little things right to sneak away with the three-point victory. Heritage should make quick work of the Knights this Thursday, as they coast to their third win in District 9-5A.

Frisco Centennial (3-2, 3-0) @ Frisco Lone Star (5-1, 3-1)—Fri., 10/10 @ 7:00 PM @ Toyota Stadium

GOTW2014wk7

Week 7’s Game of the Week pits the Area’s eleventh-ranked Lone Star Rangers against the twelfth-ranked Centennial Titans. With district play now past the halfway point, this battle for first place is no trivial matter.

During Week 6, The Colony was able to hand Frisco Lone Star its first loss by doing one simple thing: stopping QB Jason Shelley. Thanks to t he Cougars’ excellent run-stuffing defense, they forced Shelley into passing situations that weren’t ideal. The result: Shelley threw two interceptions (nearly equaling his season total coming into the game of three), while being limited to just 19 yards rushing on 18 carries.

You’d better believe that the Centennial Titans will be looking to duplicate The Colony’s success. Although shutting down the Rangers’ running game will be no easy task, the Titans certainly have the personnel in place to do it. Consider that over the Titans three-game winning streak, they’ve held their opposition to just 100 yards rushing per game—they held the district’s top running attack, Frisco High, to just 196 yards two weeks ago.

Aside from a 56-point bloodletting of Little Elm, the Rangers haven’t been able to put points on the board in district as easy they did during their first two games of the year. Consider that they averaged 54 points per contest during non-district and, aside from the Lobos game, have put up just over 21 points per game since. Up to this point, only Wakeland has had an offense on par with the Centennial Titans. That being said, talent is talent, and both the Rangers and Titans’ cups overflow with it. Should be an excellent game.

Frisco Wakeland (4-1, 2-1) VS. The Colony (4-2, 2-2)—Fri., 10/10 @ 7:00 PM @ Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium

WoverinesHelmet

Save for a narrow loss against the aforementioned Rangers of Lone Star, the Wolverines could be atop the district standings at 3-0. However, they are the district’s top-ranked team in the area rankings at ninth, after jumping a spot this week. The Wolverine’s offense—averaging 418.6 ypg—is why they need be feared. After putting up 486 yards of offense (and 42 points) on Little Elm last week, you’d best believe that Wakeland is riding high. But The Colony is not Little Elm, so the scoring won’t come as easy. Just ask Lone Star, whose elite offense was all but stymied in their first loss of the season last week to the Cougars.

The Wolverines are averaging 280.6 yard on the ground per game, while their defense has allowed just over 160 yards rushing per game (160.8); compared to the Cougars’ rushing average of 296 yard per game (third-best in the area), while allowing just 104.7 ypg. Any fans of old-school smash mouth football should be in for a real treat in this one.

Frisco Liberty (2-3, 1-2) VS. Little Elm (1-5, 1-3)—Fri., 10/10 @ 7:00 PM @ Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium

FriscoLibertyHelmet

The Frisco Liberty RedHawks, fresh off their Week 6 Bye, will look to snap their two-game winning streak against the Little Elm Lobos. The Little Elm Lobos aren’t as bad as their record indicates; they’re just in one of the toughest districts in North Texas.

The Lobos are quite adept at the running game, averaging 163.3 yards per game. Liberty, on the other hand, is excellent at snuffing out the run, allowing just 128.6 ypg, good for the second best total in District 9-5A. The RedHawks are a more balanced team, and should be able to win for the second time in district play this season.

Frisco Legacy Christian (3-2, 0-2) VS. Dallas Christian (3-2, 1-1)—Fri., 10/10 @ 7:00 PM

LegacyHelmet

This week’s matchup features last year’s DIII State Semifinalist Legacy Eagles against last year’s DII state semifinalist Dallas Christian Chargers.

After running the table in district a year ago, things certainly haven’t gone as planned for the Legacy Christian Eagles. Losers of their first two TAPPS DII-2 games this year, they take on another formidable foe in the Dallas Christian Chargers.

The Chargers hold the slight advantage in total defense allowed with 269.9 ypg (122.4 rushing, 147.2 passing), whereas the Eagles have allowed an average of 283 ypg (135.4 rushing, 116.6 passing). Legacy is far superior offensively, as they are averaging 355.6 ypg against the Chargers’ 249.6 ypg.

Of note: Both the Chargers and the Eagles have faced Tyler Grace Community thus far in the season, with the Chargers winning 49-35, and the Eagles losing by the same score (35-49).
