Keep up with the action all season long: 2014 Frisco High School Football Schedules and Results
With district play just one week away for District 9-5A, Week 2 provides one final tuneup before playoff considerations come into the foray. Here’s a look at this week’s matchups for Frisco ISD.
Frisco High (1-0) @ Waxahachie (0-1)—Sat. 9/6 @ 7:30 PM @ Waxahachie High
Despite gaining more than 169 total yards against Midlothian last week, the Indians of Waxahachie found themselves losing by two possessions in their 2014 debut. It’s hard to pin down a loss to one moment, but a third quarter that allowed Midlothian three TDs—combined with four total turnovers—is likely what caused the Indians’ demise.
Despite that, the Frisco High Raccoons will have to cautious the Waxahachie running game, as their stud back, Trevon Smith, is coming off a 204 yard performance, with 4 TDs. Frisco excelled at holding on to the rock in last week’s win over North Forney. This will be key as they cannot give Waxahachie too many free opportunities or they could get burned. Look for running back Paul Terry (154 yds, 2 TDs) to have another big game this weekend.
Frisco Heritage (1-0) @ Carrollton Creekview (1-0)—Fri., 7:30 PM @ Carrollton Standridge Stadium
The key for Carrollton Creekview in their 24-14 win last week against Saginaw Chisholm Trail was their consistency in scoring. They put up a touchdown in every quarter save for the second, when they managed a field goal. However, they were heavily penalized, nine times for 101 yards, and that won’t fly against a tougher opponent like the Heritage Coyotes.
Creekview wore down in the second half, allowing all 14 of their opposition’s points to be scored in two quick bursts. Wearing down the defense is precisely what Heritage does best—especially in the running game, as QB Malik Walker and RBs Kene Nwangwu, Jacques Norris and D’Vaughn Harris lit up the Richardson secondary for 234 combined rushing yards.
Frisco Lone Star (1-0) @ North Forney (0-1)—Fri., 7:30 PM @ City Bank Stadium
Granted, it’s going to be difficult to improve on a 63-point win and subsequent shutout from a week ago. Jason Shelley and company simply ran wild against the Sherman defense for four quarters. The Rangers won’t have it quite so easy this week against North Forney, who was defeated by the Raccoons last weekend.
The fact that Frisco High succeeded with their Wing-T formation should bode well for a Lone Star team that has more than enough backfield running weapons with which to choose, and a defense that takes pride in squelching scoring opportunities.
Frisco Wakeland (1-0) @ Loveyjoy (0-1)—Fri., 7:00 @ Lovejoy High
Lovejoy was actually up 29-28 over perennial powerhouse Mansfield Legacy last week, but was held to just a single score in the second half as Legacy hit its stride. Don’t let their winless record fool you, as Mansfield Legacy is a very solid football team. Mansfield uses a very balanced attack (281 yds rushing, 319 yds passing) to over power even the stingiest of defenses. QB Bowman Sellis is quite dangerous both in the pocket and out of it, but he can be INT prone—as last week’s three picks can attest.
The Wakeland Wolverines will look to Brent Altieri (140 yds, 2 TDs) and Jake White (85 yds, TD) to carry the rushing load against a Lovejoy defense that is susceptible to the run.
Frisco Centennial (0-1) VS. Lake Dallas (0-1)—Fri., 7:00 PM @ Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium
Ranked as a Top 20 team in the area entering last week, the Centennial Titans will be looking to wash the taste of last week’s 42-0 loss at Highland Park from their mouths. Only problem is that they will face a Lake Dallas Falcons team that is arguably just as stacked as the aforementioned Scots.
Despite being outgunned by the Wakeland Wolverines, 54-41, the Falcons still put up 489 yards of total offense. Centennial will need to stop both the arm and legs of All-District QB Dagan Haehn, who put 448 yards of offense last week. The Falcons defense can be punished by a strong ground game, so it’s up to Centennial’s speedy Anthony Pegues and company to get established early on.
Frisco Liberty (0-1) VS. McKinney (1-0)—Fri., 7:00 PM @ Toyota Stadium
Trailing 20-21 heading into the fourth quarter against Richardson Pearce last week, McKinney used a Rickey Fantroy (94 yds rushing, TD) score to pull ahead for good and sneak away with the one possession win. For Liberty to get their initial win of the season, they’ll need to contain both Fantroy and Walker Torrain (186 yds rushing, 2 TDs).
The RedHawks will need to minimize their turnovers—they had two lost fumbles and an interception last week against Denison—as well as get strong games from RB Reggie Hubbard (104 yds, TD) and QB Goyal Udgam (210 total yards).
Frisco Legacy Christian (0-0) VS. Cayuga (0-1)—Fri., 7:30 PM @ Legacy Christian
The Cayuga Wildcats of 11-2A should be an excellent test for Frisco Legacy Christian as they embark on their 2014 season. With 15 starters returning from last year’s 1A Bi-district finalists squad, the Wildcats boast plenty of weapons. The toughest challenge for the Eagles will be to stop Keshawn Jackson (1,876 yds, 27 TDs), a 4.5-burner that can read defenses exceptionally well. FB John Venable supplies the thunder to Jackson’s lightning and will be tough to contain as well.
The good news for fans of Legacy Christian is that they have plenty of weapons too. TAPPS State Semifinalists in 2013, the Eagles boast playmakers on both sides of the ball, with the offense led by dual-threat QB Ryan Davis (995 yds passing, 24 TDs). On defense, it’s hard-hitting Caleb Palmer (105 tackles) that has a knack for squashing the running game.
