The Rise of the Neighborhood Food Truck Gathering

June 11, 2020 by Meaghan Dawson
Food Trucks

It feels like forever ago when the quarantine started, doesn’t it? Now that we’re in the process of reopening I’m finding it hard to remember those first few days. I know they were wrought with a bit of fear and confusion — after all, this is a pandemic the likes of which we’ve never before seen.

There was a hefty dose of patriotic “We’ve got this” going on too, where everyone seemed to be united, for once, under the collective idea of staying home to save lives–an altruistic sacrifice everyone seemed to get behind.

There was also, if I’m remembering correctly, a fair amount of ingenuity on the parts of restaurants and businesses forced to change their mode of operation on a dime. Couple that with the rallying cry of “Support Local Businesses” and it was an oddly exciting time, too, as we were able to experience new and unique ways to patronize some of our favorites.

Street Food Comes to Your Street

It was in that spirit of excitement that a new wave of restaurant experiences was born, or at the very least, exposed to the greater public, the neighborhood food truck gatherings.

food trucks 3All around Frisco and beyond, food trucks are visiting neighborhoods and bringing the restaurant experience, and restaurant-quality meals, right to our backyards.

And while the movement was spurred on by the quarantine, this is one Corona-related phenomenon that has the legs to last way beyond the shutdown.

And just in case you want to bring the food trucks to your ‘hood, we decided to do the delicious legwork of finding some of the best for your next neighborhood get together. Trust me, it’s a hard job, but someone had to do it.

Mi Cocina: Love this Dallas favorite and want it in your own backyard? Never fear, the Mi Cocina Food truck is here. Offering pre-ordering and staunch social-distancing approved pick-up time slots, you can grab family packs of their beloved tacos and fajitas as well as queso, margaritas, and yes, even the famous Mambo Taxi. To book the Mi Cocina truck for your neighborhood, fill out the online form and get to ordering.

Sushi Dojo: While not technically a food truck and not one you can technically BOOK for your neighborhood, this one is worth the mention. If you love sushi, you have got to order from the dojo. For this truck, you place an order ahead of time and meet at the specified pick-up spot typically on Sunday evenings and grab your platter to go. It feels a teeny tiny bit illicit because you’re picking up from the back of their car, not a truck, but the goods are anything but illegal. Sushi platters filled to the brim with goodies that make up any sushi lover’s dream. The prices can’t be beat and the sushi is extraordinary. Follow Sushi Dojo on Facebook for their weekly schedule.

Misbehavin’ Cajun: In the mood for some Cajun? Misbehavin’ Cajun has you covered. Meat Pies, Crawfish Pies, Crawfish Etouffee and Shrimp Pistolettes are just a few of the Cajun samplings from this delicious truck. But no matter what you order if you don’t top it off with one (or a few) orders of Beignets, you’re sorely missing out. Owner Gary Fontenot is a Frisco native and always a pleasure to work with so be sure to book this Louisiana dream of a food truck for your neighborhood today.

Snowie to Go Snow Cone Truck: Who doesn’t love a snow cone in the heat of the Texas summer? Why not book this friendly and fun truck to make a stop in your area and bring smiles to everyone’s faces, young and old? Decked out like a bright and fun school bus, this truck is a mobile snow cone stand sure to provide relief from the heat and a little joy to your day. Follow them on Facebook or email them at info@snowietogo.com to book.

Tacos, Bites & Beats: What good is a food truck if it doesn’t bring the fun? Good question. And one that Tacos, Bites & Beats seeks to answer at every stop. Bringing delicious street tacos and Tex Mex coupled with the best beats around, this truck puts the fun in, well, food truck. Available for neighborhood visits as well as parties and events this incredible truck gets rave reviews for both fun and food. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram 0r check out their website for more information.

Food Trucks have been around for a while but it’s safe to say that during the quarantine they opened our hearts to the concept of community and gathering in an entirely different way. For that, we are forever grateful.

Even after the quarantine ends, we’ll still be booking them to come by our neighborhoods and give us that chance to connect, once again.

Did we miss your favorite food truck? Leave a comment. We’d love to check them out and share them with our readers.
