Our Game of the Week contestant, the Legacy Christian Academy Eagles, lost yet another close contest while all members of Frisco ISD’s District 13-5A had a bye week to savor victories or ponder losses as they ramp up for district play this week, during Week 6.
Legacy Christian (1-3) @ Covenant Christian (2-2)—16-22
A game marred by turnovers was still winnable for Legacy in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles came up just short as the Covenant Cougars’ offense capitalized on mistakes while their defense held steady to stop the Eagles.
Up 16-12 heading into the final quarter, it appeared the Eagles could be in line for the win, but four consecutive incomplete passes halted a fourth quarter drive that opened the door for the Cougars to score what would be the winning touchdown on a two-yard TD toss to the Cougars’ Daniel Turner.
Covenant also split the arches for a 47-yard field goal later in the fourth, but it was the Cougar’s fourth picked off pass—this one with less than 30 seconds in regulation—that etched the win in stone.
Legacy’s Kaleb Lowe threw for 169 yds, but was intercepted four times. He rushed for 47 yds and scored once. RB Andrew Straughan averaged over seven yards per carry, totaling 65 yds rushing with a TD. WRs Will McCurdy and Major Fogle combined for 99 yards receiving.
Up Next: @ Saint Dominic Savio (1-3)
The Legacy Christian Eagles return home to Comstock Field this Friday, as they look to cool off a Savio squad that put up 52 points last week for their first win of the season against Marble Falls Faith Academy.
District 13-5A Preview
Heritage Coyotes (1-3, 0-1) VS Independence (3-1, 0-1)—The Ford Center at The Star, 7:00 PM
The Heritage Coyoytes had the bye week to enjoy their first win this year. The Independence Knights, hungry for another chance in district after their Week 1 upset against Reedy, have all the appearances of a team poised for a playoff run. A win against the Coyotes and the Knights can take that first step towards the postseason tournament.
Frisco High (0-1, 0-4) VS Lone Star (3-1, 1-0)—Frisco Memorial Stadium
The Raccoons’ early season struggles could continue, as they face one of the top teams in the area in the Lone Star Rangers. Lone Star has had one week to let their near-miss loss to Denton Ryan sink in, and you’d better believe they’ll be ready to roll.
Liberty RedHawks (0-4, 0-1) VS Centennial (1-3, 1-0)
Despite just one win on the season between these two teams, look for a good old fashioned fight between two rivals that are anxious to use the return of district play as a springboard to get their seasons back on the right track.
Reedy Lions (4-0, 1-0) @ Frisco Wakeland (4-0, 1-0)
Both undefeated, both boasting big wins already in the young season, the Wakeland Wolverines and the Reedy Lions are anxious to prove they’re the new kings of the district. This is our Week 6 Game of the Week, so check back here soon for a full preview and breakdown of their matchup.
