WEEKLY SCORES AND SCHEDULE

With three of District 13-5A‘s quarterbacks throwing for five or more touchdowns, it’s no surprise that two teams notched their first wins of the year while another team kept on rolling… Here’s your look at what happened and what’s coming up for your favorite Frisco, Texas high school football team.

District 13-5A

Lone Star (3-1, 1-0) VS Denton Ryan (4-0)—21-28

Simply put, this game deserved all of the considerable hype it received. Tied 14-14 at halftime, it was a true down-to-the-wire event as the Ryan Raiders defense came up with the last big stop needed to hold onto that one-possession lead.

We knew coming in that the Ryan Raiders had a slight advantage in the passing game, just as Lone Star had an upper-hand in the running game. In spite of winning the total yards war, 372-365 as well as gaining more first downs, 19 to 17, the Rangers came up just short in a game that’s sure to go down as a classic.

Lone Star’s M.J. Rivers threw for 185 yds with a TD and no interceptions, while adding 88 yards rushing. Kirby Bennett III grinded out 113 yards on the ground and scored twice, and Marvin Mims caught five Davis passes for 118 yards. The Ryan Raiders were paced by QB Scott Sanders (302 yds, 4 TD, INT) who overcame a first-quarter interception and a shaky running game to aid in their win.

Up Next: VS Frisco (0-4, 0-1)

The Lone Star Rangers will look to return to their winning ways as they take on the winless Raccoons of Frisco High.

Reedy (4-0, 1-0) VS Princeton (1-3)—49-21

The Reedy Lions have rolled to their first-ever four-game winning streak by manhandling the Princeton Panthers in Week 4. Up 49-7 entering the fourth quarter, the Lions were even more dominant than the substantial final score indicated.

QB Josh Foskey continues to rack up the yardage, as he scorched the Panthers’ secondary at will, putting up 485 yds with 6 TDs. Foskey spread the field extremely well, as his six TDs were caught by six different receivers, with WR Sean Hall (157 yds, TD) being his go-to target. RB Justin Gipson caught four passes for 76 yds and a score while racking up 57 yds on the ground too.

Up Next: @ Wakeland (4-0, 1-0)

In what could easily be the Week 5 Game of the Week, the Reedy Lions and Wakeland Wolverines return from their district bye week tied at a perfect 4-0. But who will push their record to 5-0 as well as notch their second District 13-5A win?

Wakeland (4-0, 1-0) VS Woodrow Wilson (3-1)—49-23

The Wakeland Wolverines continued their dominance on both sides of the ball, as they easily surpassed the previously undefeated Woodrow Wilson Wildcats.

Up 28-9 at the midway point, the Wolverines kept their foot on the gas, as they put up two more touchdowns in the third quarter for the third straight quarter. The Wildcats showed some signs of life in that third quarter, as they matched Wakeland’s two TDs, but after a first half of nothing but field goals, it was too little too late.

QB Dylan Cadwallader continued to post PS4 numbers, as he connected 21 of 30 pass attempts for 327 yds and 6 TDs. WRs Easton Reeves (124 yds, 2 TDs) and Tre Adams (90 yds, 2 TDs) were Cadwallader’s primary targets, and RB Colby Delashaw toted the rock to the tune of 91 yds and a score.

Up Next: @ Reedy (4-0, 1-0)

When two undefeated teams collide at home, in the first “new” week of district action, it’s bound to be a special matchup. Who will roll to 5-0 and 2-0 in district? Will it be the Reedy Lions and their stellar offense or will it be the Wakeland Wolverines?

Centennial (1-3, 1-0) VS Garland Lakeview Centennial (1-3)—16-35

The Lakeview Centennial Patriots parlayed an explosive second half into a win, to take down the Titans and notch their first win of the 2017 season.

Down by just four points at halftime, the Centennial Titans were very much in this one. But two quick TDs by the Patriots followed by more of the same in the fourth quarter squelched a late 13-point rally posted by Centennial.

Under a potent Patriots defense, QB Weston Symes connected on just eight of 20 passes for 102 yds, and a TD. RBs B.J. Wilson (66 yds) and Hunter Williams (48 yds, TD) had a tough time finding holes against Lakeview, and WR J.D. Stephens (36 yds, TD) was the only Titan receiver to find the end zone.

Up Next: VS Liberty (1-3, 0-1)

The Liberty RedHawks, fresh off their first win of the season, will look to keep those good vibes going as they do battle with the Centennial Titans—a solid team that hasn’t won since their Week 1 district showdown against Frisco High.

Independence (3-1, 0-1) VS North Garland (1-3)—62-36

The Independence Knights had no problem dealing with the North Garland Raiders of 10-6A. On the strength of a three-TD fourth quarter, the Knights pulled away from the Raiders and put the icing on the cake while putting over 50 points up for the second time this season.

Knights’ QB Kevin Dick joined last week’s 6 TD club as he threw for 285 yds in route to those six scores. Logan Burngardt (86 yds, 2 TDs) had a big night as did WRs Colton Nelson (97 yds, 2 TDs) and Troy Baughman (60 yds, 2 TDs).

Up Next: VS Heritage (1-3, 0-1)

Like Liberty, the Heritage Coyotes have an extra week off to savor their first win of the 2017 campaign. But you’d better believe that the gritty Independence Knights will enter this game with a chip on their shoulder, as they’ve won every game thus far, save for an opening week loss against Reedy.

Frisco (0-4, 0-1) VS Texarkana Pleasant Grove (3-0)—13-43

Texarkana Grove dominated a Frisco Raccoons defense that had been surrendering less than 20 points per game in its last two contests.

As if that weren’t enough, the Raccoons’ offense lost its top two running backs to injury—Nick Stanton and Heath Yetter.

Kamari Wilkerson filled in admirably, gaining 72 yards on eleven carries, while Bryson Clemons (48 yds, TD) and Jack Marshall (29 yds, TD) each found the end zone. But it was not enough to match a Pleasant Grove offense that saw six different players score as they jumped to a 29-7 halftime lead.

Up Next: VS Lone Star (3-1, 1-0)

A tough opening stretch for the Frisco Raccoons could easily continue as they play host to arguably the district’s best team, in Lone Star. And the Rangers are fresh off a playoff-caliber game that they barely lost—to the Ryan Raiders of Denton.

Heritage (1-3, 0-1) VS Denison (3-1)—65-57

In a high-scoring fandango that mimicked Week 3’s loss to Grapevine, the Heritage Coyotes notched their first win of the season and dealt Denison its first loss.

QB Amare Jones (199 yds passing, 3 TDs) amassed 500 yards of total offense—with six total TDs—thanks in no small measure to his ridiculous 301 yds rushing and 3 TDs. WR Glen Mbaku (112 yds, TD) was the game’s top receiver, and ATH Khalil Harris had a big night too, racking up 164 yards of offense with 3 TDs.

Up Next: VS Independence (3-1, 0-1)

The Heritage Coyotes’ confidence has got to be running high as they not only notched their first win of the season last week, but they did so by defeating a previously undefeated Denison team. They’ll need all the confidence they can muster as they take on an Independence squad that’s eager to prove their lone loss was just an aberration.

Liberty (1-3, 0-1) VS South Garland (1-3)—55-20

The Liberty Redhawks made a strong statement, as they piled on the points for an easy win against 10-6A’s South Garland.

After averaging just under 13 points per game during their first three games of the season, the Redhawks offense doubled their points average by halftime alone. Up 28-6, Liberty kept up the intensity in the second half as they cruised to an easy win.

QBs Carson Morris and Mitchell Miller combined for 175 yards passing and two TDs, while completing eight of nine of their passes. Dmitri Jones pummeled the Colonels on the ground, on his way to 195 yds rushing and 5 TDs. WRs Keavon Wright (53 yds, TD) and Nick Taylor each caught a scoring pass.

Up Next: VS Centennial (1-3, 1-0)

Despite a three-game losing streak, the Titans are still undefeated in district play.  They’ll look to push that record to 2-0 as they take on a Redhawks crew that would love to show that putting up 55 points last week was no fluke.

TAPPS DII-1

Legacy Christian (1-2) VS Lindsay (3-1)—16-20

The Legacy Christian Eagles fell to Lindsay thanks in part to Lindsay’s explosive first quarter, the only quarter in the game where either team scored more than twice.

If this game started in the second quarter, the Eagles would have won 9-6, but as it was, most of the action came in that aforementioned opening frame, as the 2A Knights managed to ride that strong start to a win.

Legacy’s Kaleb Lowe (279 yds passing, 2 TDs) had 315 total yards of offense, and WR Jonathan Mosley hauled in six passes for 112 yards, but it just wasn’t quite enough, as Legacy lost for the second time in three games.

Up Next: @ Colleyville Covenant Christian (1-2)

Check back right here, as we’ll break down the ins-and-outs of the Legacy Christian VS Colleyville Covenant Christian battle that will be this week’s Game of the Week!
