The holiday sprint is in full swing! Starting with Halloween and ending on New Year’s Day, we all experience some of the most widely celebrated holidays on the calendar. During this time, YMSL Impact Frisco strives especially hard to help EVERYONE in the community enjoy the blessings the season has to offer.
Who is YMSL?
The Young Men’s Service League is a 501(c)(3) non-profit national organization. Moms and their teenage sons make up the YMSL membership. They volunteer together to instill a heart of service and serve their local communities during the young man’s four years of high school.
The YMSL Impact Frisco chapter represents more than 200 moms and sons and is one of 100 YMSL chapters across 16 states. Since the chapter’s founding in 2013, it has served more than 25,000 hours with local philanthropy partners. YMSL teaches leadership and life skills as part of its four-year comprehensive program to help develop our young men into capable, confident, and compassionate leaders of tomorrow.
Making Halloween Memorable for Miracle League
YMSL Impact Frisco started the season of serving on Halloween by helping Miracle League of Frisco put on a Trunk-or-Treat, its first event in nearly a year due to precautions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Miracle League of Frisco is a sports organization for special needs children that seeks to provide positive sports experiences. It has always been a favorite philanthropy partner of YMSL Impact Frisco. In fact, since YMSL Impact Frisco’s founding in 2013, chapter members have served more than 1200 hours with the organization.
Impact Frisco’s 100+ Young Men voted unanimously to donate what would have been the meeting snack for their October meeting to the Trunk-or Treat effort…more than 5000 pieces of candy!
Led by President, Lauren Farragut, VP of Philanthropy Amy Guest, and Philanthropy Liaison, Jennifer Clutter, the chapter also prepared a spooky display that was manned by more than 30 moms and sons to pass out candy and celebrate the Miracle League kids.
High school junior, Jack Carson, even donned a Tinky Winky costume (purple Teletubby) that brought a special connection with a young Miracle League participant, whose parents expressed their gratefulness:
“You have no idea what you just did…that’s my son’s favorite character of all time. You made his year!” Miracle League Frisco added, “thank you to all the groups that came out and made our kids feel loved and special, and who knows, we may have just started a wonderful new tradition.”
Get into the Christmas Spirit
The YMSL Impact Frisco chapter calendar also hosts many other serving opportunities that will help its philanthropy partners make a difference this holiday season. For example, the chapter is partnering with Samaritan Purse’s Operation Christmas Child effort to help process the millions of shoebox gifts collected that bring hope and joy to children around the world.
The chapter will also continue to partner with Frisco Family Services, Meals on Wheels, Feed the City, and Lovepacs.
YMSL Impact Frisco encourages all of its members (and anyone reading this) to experience the joy that comes from helping those most in need during the holidays!
