For the fourth year in a row, the Frisco Chamber of Commerce will take the concept of team-building to another level with their annual Frisco 5-Star Corporate Challenge.
On Friday, May 11, teams of six (three men, three women) will compete in a series of skill challenges – from activities you might recognize, such as tug-of-war or passing a football, to events cooked up by the Chamber staff to push everyone to their limit, while having as much fun as possible. It’s no wonder Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney called it “the ultimate adult field day!”

It has been exciting to watch the Frisco 5-Star Corporate Challenge evolve into the fun event that it is today,” said Tony Felker, President/CEO of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. “What began as a class project by Leadership Frisco Class XVIII in 2015, has now become a friendly but intense competition that extends well beyond the date the event! The 5-Star Challenge promotes corporate wellness and team-building, as well as providing business-to-business networking, all while giving back to Frisco’s local charities.”
The overall winner gets a very tangible expression of bragging rights: The Chamber Cup, which they keep for a year. Cheney Group won The Cup in 2016 and had quite a bit of fun with it for a hilarious video; The Cup was shown being taken shopping, doing yoga, and so on.

But in 2017, the winning team was a motivated bunch from the National Breast Cancer Foundation, led by CEO Kevin Hail. In the year since their victory, Hail produced a few funny videos of his own, and other teams joined in on the video fun, so it will be interesting to see which team can back up their talk on the field.
The event takes place at the Dr. Pink Field behind Toyota Stadium and is open to the public; if nothing else, you’ll want to come for the last event of the day, the lip-sync battle.
Teams really crank up the creativity with song choices, costumes, and choreography, and it may not be an accident that last year NBCF won the lip-sync battle on their way to the overall victory. Their performance of the theme “Time of Our Lives” from “Dirty Dancing” is already legendary and it spawned many memes.

While the Frisco 5-Star Corporate Challenge has always had a philanthropic element, this year, it has reached a new level,” shared Christi Wilson, Director of Events for the Frisco Chamber. “This year, each team will be given the opportunity to play for a local charity which is a great way to promote and connect charities and businesses. It is a win-win situation for all!”
There is also a raffle for a unique Dallas Cowboys experience; all proceeds from the raffle will be added to the amount donated to the charities selected by the winning teams.

There’s still time to enter a team – contact the Frisco Chamber of Commerce or visit their 5-Star Challenge website for more information. You may also want to follow the 5-Star Challenge Facebook page for latest updates, who’s participating, photos, videos, and memes.
