One of the newer breakfast/brunch spots in Frisco is The Nest Café at the southwest corner of Parkwood Drive and Warren Parkway. Although an intimate space, the atmosphere has character with farmhouse decor and unique accents.
Open 7:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday and from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on weekends, when it’s much-adored brunch menu is served, Nest Café delivers both great food and tasty coffee.
Among their weekday breakfast offerings are granola, avocado toast, a fried egg sandwich and omelets (garden and classic).
Then there’s the Nest Breakfast, which features two eggs, bacon, fruit and bread, or the intriguing and decadent-sounding Ham and Gruyere Waffle, which consists of ham, Gruyere, a sunny side up egg and is served with Mornay sauce.
However, on my recent Wednesday morning visit, I opted for the croissant sandwich, which features bacon or ham, an egg, cheddar cheese and arugula served on a buttery, tasty croissant for just over $6.50.
I also chose a house-made cappuccino as coffee is Nest Café’s other specialty. They offer an impressive selection of cold brews, espresso and other wonderful caffeine-laden concoctions sure to get your day started on the right foot.
Service With a Smile
As for the service, it was impeccable. Upon entering the intimate space, I was greeted by a friendly, smiling face behind the counter asking if this was my first visit.
I replied it was but said I knew what I wanted, so I quickly ordered my croissant and cappuccino. After handing me an order number, she informed me they would bring out my food and drink in a few minutes’ time.
It literally was only a few minutes when my cappuccino arrived with my breakfast sandwich following not long after that.
I have consumed a lot of coffee in my life and this was one of the best cappuccinos I’ve ever had, just one sip more than wet my whistle for my actual breakfast.
As for my croissant, it was simply perfect. The bacon was nice and crisp, just like I like it, the egg perfectly scrambled, with the cheddar and arugula rounding out what is an amazing breakfast sandwich. Oh, and the croissant was the perfect vessel for this combination of flavors.
And this was a meal I wanted to savor, no scarfing down my croissant and guzzling my cappuccino. No, this was a breakfast I wanted to eat slow, something which the casual vibe at Nest Café, which comes complete with mellow background music, encourages its customers to do – stay a while.
On my visit, I noticed a nice mix of customers. Not far from me sat one gentleman working away on his laptop while enjoying some coffee, a couple a few tables over quietly conversed as they awaited their breakfast and coffee, and two ladies were having a business meeting several tables from me.
But Nest Café doesn’t only serve breakfast, they also serve lunch with their board of fare including several salads and paninis like one featuring Bulgogi, the popular Korean beef, and Italian Chicken.
However, my next visit just might have to be on the weekend, so I can try one of the delicious-sounding offerings on their brunch menu. Nest Café has four different varieties of French toast, including one made with Nutella and another with a s’mores theme.
Or maybe one of the six different types of waffles (which includes one made with homemade fudge) is the direction I would go.
The Nest Café also offers several varieties of benedicts on the weekends, including the ever-popular Eggs Benedict and Smoked Salmon Benedict.
Maybe the topper on their brunch menu is a Croque Madame, a sandwich of ham, Gruyere cheese, a sunny side up egg and Mornay Sauce all served on Brioche Texas Toast.
Upon leaving Nest Café after my first visit, I was not only suitably impressed with their food and coffee, but also with their friendly service. The powers-that-be here have excelled in creating a spot that has the feel of a neighborhood eatery with great personal service.
My other thought upon departing is, when can I return? Hopefully soon.
