Rockfish Seafood & Grill Frisco

I finally got some girlfriends together to try the new Rockfish Seafood & Grill in Frisco.  Opening in here last November, it’s conveniently located at the Dallas North Tollway and Main.

Offering plenty of parking it’s good for date night before a movie at the local Cinemark, a “Girl’s Night Out”, or  a family pit-stop before or after an event in Toyota Stadium.  They also take reservations which seems to be a rarity now in Frisco.

Promoting the motto “Our fishermen – your fish!,” don’t be put off by the “seafood” name if fish is not your thing.  They’ve got plenty of options like steak, chicken, and pasta.  My party consisted of four local ladies, two of whom absolutely love seafood, one dabbles every now and then, and the other not at all, so we had varying tastes to please.

Walking through the door you immediately feel the sense of being beachside with driftwood paneling and blue tones oozing a relaxing atmosphere.  A spacious bar is located to the left with plenty of seating if you just want to hang out.  Throughout the rest of the venue you can choose varying size tables and booths, or weather depending, a large patio which is sure to be a hit in warmer temperatures.

Our server was pleasant and friendly and quick to bring our drinks of choice.  Perusing the menu, two of my friends were immediately impressed by the seafood offering and found it hard to choose.  Most of the entrees allow you to add fish.  They also boast an extensive gluten-free menu choice, or if you are trying to stick to that New Years diet resolution, they also offer a “Body & Sole Menu” which details not only calorie content, but breaks each menu item down into fat, carbs, fiber, and protein.

To start our meal off, delicious crab cakes were teamed up with a homemade remoulade sauce that certainly made the dish… Generously stuffed and flavorful with a light coating of breadcrumbs, then it was on to our entrees.  To me, Pasta Alfredo is generally on the blander side of my favorite pasta dishes, but with the additions of tomato, bacon, mushrooms, and onion, the taste proved to be well-balanced.  While the portion size of the herb-crusted chicken appeared to be on the small side, the accompanying mashed potatoes and vegetables made for a filling dish.

My two fish-loving friends chose the gumbo for an entree.  Bearing in mind one of the ladies is from Mississippi, the bar of pleasing on this dish pretty darn high.  First tastes lit up their eyes.  Describing it as…

True to Cajun style, it was hearty and honestly like a meal in a bowl.  The shrimp cooked to perfection, not chewy or spongey at all, which is a common mistake with other seafood restaurants.”

I was so torn on a dessert choice, but ended up selecting the bread pudding.  It is the best I’ve had in years.  Very light, accompanied with just a nice drizzle of bourbon sauce.

Our service was attentive, efficient, and our waiter definitely knew the menu.  Rockfish is a great venue to relax with the ladies for our monthly GNO.  With prices lower than I usually see around Frisco for a full service restaurant, I will definitely be back… next time, with the family.

Rockfish Frisco is now serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 3p.m.  With savory food and $1 Mimosas, what a great way to start your day!  Rockfish also offers a full-service bar, and half-priced bottles of wine are featured every Wednesday & Saturday.  Don’t forget to ask for their signature margarita, the “Rock-A-Rita.”

Happy hour is Mon – Fri: 3pm – 7pm; Saturday & Sunday 10 a.m. – 7pm.
