Frisco continues to grow, in both population and its dining scene. If you’re a foodie like me, you’re constantly on the hunt to find the best new restaurant in town. During this season, in particular, my family and I enjoy dining at local businesses on a weekly basis.
So when the owners of Saigon Box in Frisco invited me to their restaurant, I couldn’t wait to visit! Asian cuisine is one of my faves and I guarantee this spot will become one of your favorites too.
But first, a little background on the sweet family behind the restaurant. Saigon Box is owned and operated by mother-daughter duo, Tha Tong and Huong Tran. Hailing all the way from Vietnam, when Mama Tha landed in the states, she hit the ground running and worked hard to achieve her dreams.
She was eager to partner with her daughter on their first business together. When they noticed a lack of fast-casual, authentic Vietnamese restaurants in the area, the women chose to bring a piece of their culture and flavors to Frisco.
Mama Tha is not only c0-owner and operator but the head chef as well (she’s 72 years young by the way). You’ll find her in the kitchen preparing your made-to-order meal to perfection.
And as daughter Huong points out, “My mom is the key player and the star of the show. Her dedication to cooking and the fact that the flavors are home-grown is what makes Saigon Box special from other Vietnamese restaurants.”
What’s the reason behind the name, you ask? Saigon is the capital of Vietnam, and “box” represents the personalized way that each meal is served to its customer.
Let’s get to the good stuff – the FOOD.
Along with authentic flavors, Saigon Box offers a very approachable and intriguing menu, as well as options to accommodate vegan and vegetarian diets — another reason their restaurant is a stand-out in Frisco.
Saigon’s signature boxes are filled with your choice of rice, noodles, and protein, and accompanied with a mixture of delicious veggies, all packed together in a box – which worked out perfectly in their favor when shortly after opening restaurants were forced to operate curbside and delivery-only service.
I’ve visited the restaurant a handful of times now, and I’ve got my whole family hooked as well.
A few of our favorites are the Salad Box (greens, choice of protein, pickled veggies, onion crisps, and chopped peanuts), Vietnamese fried chicken (no description needed – it’s amazing fried chicken, Vietnamese-style!) and Banh Mi fries (the best fries you’ll ever eat, hands down).
There’s also Banh Mi sandwiches, Mama Tha’s Pho Noodles, and plenty of other tasty homemade items to satisfy your tastebuds.
Saigon Box opened its doors in February, right before the pandemic began to take its course. But fortunately, through the support of the Frisco community and their decision to continue with only delivery and take-out service, for now, they’re able to keep their doors open and offer the quality, home-cooked meals we’re all craving.
Have I convinced you yet? Show some love and support to our new neighbors; they’re open Monday – Saturday for lunch and dinner.
