In a phone interview with Mayor Jeff Cheney this afternoon, we have the following update on COVID-19 policy for the City of Frisco.
This situation is rapidly evolving and changing and the city council and I want the citizens of Frisco to know that our entire staff is monitoring this situation 24/7. Our leadership team is being very thoughtful and deliberate on any decisions made sourcing information from as many sources as are available.
We care not only about our citizenry, but also our local economy. We care about employees long term and their ability to maintain basic household living expenses.
Many of you are committed to shopping local. Many of you are the founders and owners of small businesses… businesses that employ a dedicated team of people. We’re doing everything we can to keep your doors open and your team employed, even if “OPEN” now means something different.
We realize that there is a lot of fear and uncertainty about health, safety, finances, and our immediate outlook, but we urge everyone to remain calm and stay kind.
We also encourage everyone to take care of and be mindful of their mental and emotional health. We have numerous non-profit resources to which anyone can turn and our city staff can help guide you should you need assistance.
You can have confidence in our city’s leadership. We are following Governor Greg Abbot’s executive order issued today, Thursday, March 19, effective through April 3.
- Order No. 1: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, every person in Texas shall avoid social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people.
- Order No. 2: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, people shall avoid eating or drinking at bars, restaurants, and food courts, or visiting gyms or massage parlors; provided, however, that the use of drive-thru, pickup, or delivery options is allowed and highly encouraged throughout the limited duration of this executive order.
- Order No. 3: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, people shall not visit nursing homes and retirement or long-term care facilities unless to provide critical assistance.
- Order No. 4: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, schools shall temporarily close.
We will continue to keep all our citizens updated as new information and resources become available. You can also visit FriscoTexas.gov/coronavirus/ for up-to-date information at all times.
We are strong. We are Frisco. And, we will prevail.
