Leo’s Street Taco Company

UPDATE: PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Whenever I get a craving for some street tacos, two words immediately pop into my head- “Fuel City,” a gas station/taco oasis on the southern edge of downtown Dallas which has since expanded to Mesquite and also to Fort Worth.

Unfortunately, a trek to Fuel City can be a bit of a haul. So when Leo’s Street Taco Company opened near Preston Road and the Sam Rayburn Tollway in September 2015, my taco-related cravings were immediately solved. Leo’s has a menu featuring a mouth-watering variety of street tacos offering steak, chicken, brisket, pork al pastor, carnitas, and barbacoa.

Diners can choose between corn or flour tortillas, and the carb-conscious folks out there can order their tacos on a leaf of lettuce and avoid whole corn versus flour debate altogether. All of Leo’s tacos come with cilantro, onion, and lime.

leos-street-taco-companyLooking for the healthier options?  You want “Fit Tacos.” Here, customers can order fish, shrimp and veggie tacos. The fish and shrimp tacos are both grilled and served with fresh cabbage in addition to the usual sides of fresh cilantro, onion, and lime.

But tacos aren’t all Leo’s offers. How about some nachos (chicken or steak), quesadillas (steak, chicken, cheese, veggie), or any one of their numerous salads?  You’ll always get the the customary sides like rice, beans, and even roasted corn, in addition to the usual taco accompaniments of chips and salsa, queso, or guacamole.

Let’s talk salsas! Leo’s has a wide range of salsas that will kick it up to HIGH or deliver a more subdued flavor to anything you order.  With five different salsas across the entire spectrum of heat levels, take advantage of the salsa bar along with fresh lettuce, onions, cilantros and jalapenos for both dine-in and carry-out customers.

Personally, I have been to Leo’s more than a few times since they opened, and since I love fish and shrimp tacos, those are usually what I order. However, the chicken and steak tacos are also savory, flavorful, and delicious.  I’d suggest a side of the chicken tortilla soup with any taco you order.

The only thing missing from Leo’s menu is breakfast tacos, but maybe they’re coming soon? Still, it’s hard to find anything to quibble about at this relatively new spot to grab some street tacos here in Frisco. The ingredients are fresh, their prices are reasonable, the service is friendly, and everything is made-to-order… always a great combination.  Be aware, since Leo’s starts from scratch when you order, there can be a bit of a wait to get your food, but any wait is more than worth it.

The space Leo’s is in has had a rather interesting history, at least since I moved to Frisco in November 2003. In that time, it has housed Ritzy’s, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, and most recently a place called Zippy’s that offered the rather odd combination of barbecue and chicken fingers. Obviously, none of the previous tenants in that spot had anything in the way of staying power, but Leo’s is off to a great start there, and here’s hoping they break the trend by delivering great tacos to the ever-growing population of Frisco for many years to come.

So, if you’re craving some tacos, give Leo’s Street Taco Company a shot. You won’t regret it!
