Keep up with the action all season long: 2014 Frisco High School Football Schedules and Results
Frisco ISD football thus far, has dominated District 9-5A. With three teams undefeated, and a whopping six teams in the top 20 of the Area Rankings, there may be no better time to your favorite team live.
W Frisco Lone Star (4-0, 2-0) @ Frisco Liberty (2-2, 1-1)—23-16
Statistical analysis is never more prevalent than in baseball—where FIP, WHIP and BABIP scream at you. Although these metrics do provide some useful insight into the game, it’sjust a paper-only look.
In other words, stats are nice, but you’ve still got to play the games.
A cursory glance at the box score of last Friday’s 23-16 Rangers win over the RedHawks paints a different story. Liberty led in total yards (241:179), first downs (17:13), and had fewer yards lost to penalties (35:50)—yet the RedHawks were hung with the loss. Despite being outplayed in the first half, Lone Star’s defense kept them close, as they trailed 10-7 at halftime.
The second half would see the Rangers outscore Liberty 16-6—just enough to eek out the win and climb into the 5A Area’s Top 10. QB Jason Shelley threw for 126 yds and two TDs, including the game winner with 1:25 remaining in the fourth quarter. Michael Johnson caught three passes for 59 yds and two scores, and Jordan Jones totaled 90 yards (40 rushing and 50 receiving). Liberty was led by QB Udgam Goyal’s 174 total yards, with WR Garrett Locke (44 yds) snagging a TD, and RB Reggie Hubbard totaling 46 yds.
W Frisco (3-1, 2-0) @ The Colony (2-2, 0-2)—13-7
This classic district matchup certainly lived up to its billing, as it took double overtime to determine the victor. Both the Frisco Raccoons and The Colony Cougars produced near-flawless defensive games, but in the end the most talented player on either side proved to be the difference.
Offensively, it boiled down to Frisco RB Paul Terry (167 yds, 2 TDs) versus The Colony’s RB Myles Benning (153 yds), with Terry scoring the game-winner on a four-yard run in the second OT. Save for a 58-yard punt return in the second quarter by TC’s Austin Myers, the Raccoons’ defense would have pitched a shutout.
The ‘Coon’s stout running game and another outstanding performance from their defense, are two huge reasons why they leaped four spots to the No. 12 spot in the 5A Area rankings.
W Frisco Centennial (1-2, 1-0) VS. Frisco Heritage (3-1, 1-1)—31-28
Centennial’s speedy RB Anthony Pegues burst onto the scene at the best possible moment, as the Titans were able to avoid an 0-3 start to the season thanks to his 92-yard fourth quarter TD run.
Pegues (263 yds, 2 TDs) couldn’t have picked a better game for a career night as the Titans defense was having trouble stopping Heritage’s QB Malik Walker (301 yds, 3 TDs, INT) and his favorite target WR Bubba Ogbebor (120 yds, 3 TDs). Despite their 0-2 start, the district win moves Centennial (1-0) just behind Frisco Lone Star (2-0) and Frisco High (2-0) atop District 9-5A.
W Frisco Legacy Christian (3-0) @ Arlington Grace Prep (2-2)—24-6
Leading 10-6 heading into the fourth quarter, the Legacy Christian Eagles received a late scoring boost thanks to QB Ryan Davis (208 total yards). Davis found Chase Moake on a 14-yard pass, and hit Chase Eisenmann (123 total yards, TD) for a 43-yarder to put the game on ice. The win not only pushes the Eagles to 3-0 on the year, it also lands them in the fourth spot in the Small Private Schools Area Rankings—not a bad place to be with district play starting up in the next few days.
L Frisco Independence (1-3, 0-2) @ Little Elm (1-3, 1-1)—6-46
A Brandon Williams (69 yds, TD) 10-yard run in the first quarter would be the only time the Knights of Independence reached the end zone. From that point forward, it was all Little Elm, all the time as RBs Huey Mitchell (107 yds, 2 TDs) and Ryan Fink (104 yds, 2 TDs) supplied the majority of the damage with QB Josh Savage completing over 85% of his passes, including a first quarter TD, to help pace the Lobos to their first win of 2014.
