Frisco Arts Walk Speeds Up to a Run

August 23, 2018 by Suad Bejtovic

Capitalizing on the enormous momentum and enthusiasm for the arts that exists in our community, the Frisco Association for the Arts (often referred to simply as Frisco Arts) is expanding the annual Frisco Arts Walk to also include a 5K Run on Saturday, October 6, 2018, with an 8:30 am start.

The inaugural Frisco Arts Walk and Run is an arts-themed 5K along the beautiful grounds of Hall Park, where the runners will be surrounded and inspired by the art of the Hall Collection. The run route will include pop-up music, artists, and dancers, and the winners in each category will receive a unique 10 x 10 original work of art by local artists.

Serkan Hall Park artFrisco Mayor Jeff Cheney will serve as emcee for the awards ceremony, presenting arts-themed finisher medals created by Groggy Dog in Frisco. Other community sponsors will be on site as well, including Tumbleweed TexStyles, a Frisco-based company was started by two Frisco ISD teachers. Their creative Texas- inspired designs can be found all over the country, but their hearts lie in Frisco.

Early bird registration pricing for the 5K is $35 until September 1 (registration continues until event day at a higher price), and there are still vendor booths and sponsorships available (email sponsorship@friscoarts.org for details).

Frisco Arts WalkImmediately following the run, the free and open to the public 3rd Annual Frisco Arts Walk begins through the lakeside trails and Texas Sculpture Garden. The visitors will again enjoy the world-renowned UNT Jazz Lab Bands and Jazz Singers, guided art tours, local artist booths, an interactive children’s area, gourmet food trucks, and more.

New for this year is Frisco Arts partnership with The Cliburn, which comes as a recognition of Frisco Arts as an important outreach partner to support established cultural cornerstones like The Cliburn to grow their audiences in Frisco, where there is a high concentration of young classical musicians.

The Cliburn Red Carpet Performances will offer a Steinway grand piano at the Frisco Arts Walk and Run for amateur musicians to perform throughout the day. For the first time ever in Frisco, the Cliburn will present Clayton Stephenson, 2015 Cliburn Junior Jury Discretionary Award winner, with a special performance and meet-and-greet.

Frisco Arts Walk 4Representatives from The Cliburn will be on-site to share information about the 2019 Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition and Festival, which takes place in Dallas on May 31 – June 8, 2019 with Former First Lady Mrs. Laura Bush as honorary chair. Jacques Marquis, Cliburn President and CEO, shared,

As we prepare to welcome the very best 13- to 17-year-old pianists from around the world to Dallas next year, one of the Cliburn’s top priorities is forming new, purposeful relationships with the region’s innovative arts organizations, including Frisco Arts. We’re looking forward to being at the Walk and Run this fall, to meet the community of Frisco and to introduce the exceptional talent that they can expect at the Cliburn Junior Competition.

Frisco Arts Walk 2Most Frisconians know that the Texas Sculpture Garden is the largest private collection of contemporary art ever assembled and made available to the public by philanthropists Craig and Kathryn Hall to benefit the Texas Community by honoring the talent of homegrown artists. Visitors can download the mobile app OtoCast to hear the stories behind each sculpture, told by the artists themselves.
