Frisco Arts Walk Returns October 7

October 5, 2017 by Suad Bejtovic
Frisco Arts Walk

Frisco Arts LogoSports fans and restaurant enthusiasts in Frisco have been spoiled for choice in recent years, and now the arts lovers are catching up. Following last year’s successful inaugural event, Frisco Association for the Arts is bringing back the Frisco Arts Walk for the second time, on Saturday, October 7, 2017, from noon to 7:00 p.m, at Hall Park.

Frisco Arts WalkFrisco Arts Walk is a free, family-friendly, immersive arts experience celebrating Frisco’s citywide art in public spaces, and featuring interactive performances, street musicians, artists-at-work, pop-up food truck park, children’s area complete with bounce houses, face painting and an instrument petting zoo.

In addition, the event will offer an audio guide of the sculpture park through the mobile app Otocast, artist and vendor booths, as well as the docent-guided tours of the indoor Texas Sculpture Garden, the largest private collection of Texas sculptures ever assembled and made available to the public.

Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney says he loves what Frisco Arts Walk offers to the community.

It’s great exposure for my children who are typically more sports focused to open their minds to art and to what it looks like and sounds like,” Cheney said. “It’s going to be a fantastic event for our community.”

Frisco Arts’ mission is to make the arts accessible to all citizens,” says Tammy Meinershagen, Executive Director of Frisco Arts. “Frisco Arts Walk brings all art forms to the community and this year includes the world-class UNT One O’Clock Lab Band for their first public performance in Frisco.”

The Frisco appearance of the seven-time Grammy-nominated jazz band will be a special treat for their many fans.

John W. Richmond, dean of the College of Music at the University of North Texas is looking forward to sharing their famous jazz legacy.

Our students appreciate the opportunity to perform for local enthusiastic audiences. Frisco Arts Walk is just one way we serve our communities and provide Texans with the very best in jazz music.”

2017 marks the 70th anniversary of the jazz studies program at UNT, the first of its kind in the nation,” says Brenda McCoy, Vice Provost for Academic Outreach at UNT.  “Frisco Arts Walk is a perfect setting to celebrate this important milestone.”

Select visitors who want to actually perform at Frisco Arts Walk themselves will be able to do so courtesy of Steinway Hall Plano through a program known as the Steinway Piano Red Carpet Performances. Steinway will provide a grand piano on a red carpet where amateur musicians may sign up for a 10 minute performance experience of a lifetime.

In partnership with Visit Frisco, Frisco Arts will also unveil the winning design of the newest art-themed iHeartFrisco marker at Frisco Arts Walk. This new art piece will be designed and completed by a local Frisco artist through a competition and will be permanently located at HALL Park.Frisco Arts Walk
