Frisco High School Football 2015: UIL Area Review; Lone Star downs Forney 55-13

During the Area Round of the UIL 2015 Playoffs, the Lone Star Rangers proved that putting up fifty points against an opponent isn’t just something they can do during regular season play.

W Lone Star (11-1) VS Forney (8-4)—55-13

Heading into the UIL Playoffs two weeks ago, the Lone Star Rangers were averaging close to 45 points per game. Then, oddly enough, they were held to “just” 24 points against Prosper in the Bi-district round. It seemed as though the dawn of the playoffs would bring forth more stringent defenses, and that points—even for the Rangers—would be at a premium.

Sometimes conventional wisdom is way off.

The Rangers hung 50-plus on the JackRabbits—scoring 27 first quarter points, or three more than all of last week’s win—all while holding Forney to just 13 points, a mere one week after they put up a staggering 77 points over a hapless Bryan Adams squad.

Football, like most sports, can be both exhilarating and a bit strange, all at the same beautiful moment. Nothing odd about the Lone Star offense, however, as they proved that their output against Prosper was more of an anomaly than a new norm.

Up 27-0 heading into the second quarter, thanks to three Darrin Smith (156 yds, 4 TDs) scoring runs followed by a Chris Miller four-yard scamper into the end zone, the game was already well at hand for Lone Star.

With the run firmly established, QB Jason Shelley (308 yds, 2 TDs) took to the air, tossing an 87-yard TD pass to Jrayton Fuksa (222 yds, 2 TDs) to open the second, followed up by another Fuksa scoring reception just a few minutes later.

The third quarter was more of the same, as Fuksa found the end zone once again, this time via a three-yard run, followed by a Smith scoring scamper to give Lone Star an insurmountable 55-0 lead after three.

All told, the Rangers offense amassed 584 total yards, and their defense allowed just 224 yards from Forney, while limiting their running attack to a paltry negative three yards.

The Jackrabbits were led by QB Luke Skipper (227 yds, TD) and WR Malik Woods (115 yds, TD).
