Even though the four playoff spots had been decided by Week 10, it was still an important week due to postseason seedings. As it turned out, three of the four lucky teams needed a 100% effort to stave off the opposition and optimize their postseason paths.
W Frisco High School (5-2) Vs. Prosper (0-7)—24-21
The Prosper Eagles had the opportunity to notch their first district win of the season while simultaneously playing the role of spoiler. Ultimately, they were able to achieve neither—but managed to make it close.
Save for a 30-yard field goal by Raccoons kicker Luke Wadley late in the fourth quarter, Prosper could have forced over time or possibly snuck away with the victory.
Prosper received big games from RB Marquez Houston (125 yds), WR Chris Jackson (3/105 yds. TD) and QB Chris Haase (131 yds, 2 TDs) who connected on 75% of his passes. As Raccoons fans have come to expect, Max Steitle was excellent once again. Steitle rushed for 154 yards on 23 carries. Fellow RB Matt Nollman picked up an additional 91 yards and QB Jake Battaglia threw for 129 yards with 2 TDs, and ran for another 42 yards and an additional TD.
W Frisco Centennial (6-1) Vs. Frisco Heritage (3-4)—28-8
In this week’s only blowout, the Titans overwhelmed the Coyotes thanks to a blistering running game. Up 14-0 at the half, the outcome of this game was never really in doubt.
Centennial’s Kamari Burnett rushed for 127 yards with three TDs, and star QB Kelly Cordova overcame two interceptions to produce 179 total yards of offense. Wakeland was led by RB Sean Jones (93 yards) and WR Keaton White (111 yards, TD). QB Malik Walker (191 yards, TD) connected on a 61-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter.
W Frisco Wakeland (5-2) Vs. Frisco Liberty (2-5)—43-42
With the RedHawks leading 21-13 at halftime, the packed house knew they’d be in for a high-scoring affair. They probably had no idea that’d it take two OTs and another 51 combined points to decide a winner.
If not for the combined efforts of RBs Brent Altieri (164 yds, 3 TDs) and Alex Marr (217 yds, 3 TDs), the Wolverines could easily have lost to the underdog RedHawks. Liberty was paced by RB Chris McPhaul (82 yards, 4 TDs) who seemingly scored every time he touched the ball, and WR Ashton Miller 71 yds, TD). Although this game was dictated by the run, Wakeland’s WR Justice Williams (4/65 yds) had a big night, as did QB Jackson Lamb (93 yds, 0 INTs).
W Frisco Legacy Christian (4-0) Vs. Colleyville Covenant Christian (3-1)—26-21
Last week’s Game of the Week was deadlocked in a 14-14 tie at the half, and saw favorite Legacy Christian trailing 21-20 heading into the fourth quarter. It was in that fateful fourth that the Eagles showed why they are now the top seed from TAPPS D-III 2. The Eagles defense stepped up big time in the fourth to shutdown the Cougars offense and Ryan Davis supplied the eventual winning score via a 6-yard scamper.
Once again, QB Ryan Davis was the game’s standout, as he threw for 103 yards and one TD and added two more TDs and 79 yards on the ground. RBs C.J. Encalade (67 yds, TD) and Thomas Dreger (52 yards) also had big nights for the playoff-bound Eagles.
