We’ve been waiting for eight | 11.
If you haven’t already guessed, most of us at Lifestyle Frisco are fans of the grape. So a traditional wine bar in old downtown Frisco is a welcome addition to the scene.
For one, it’s the kind of place that is helping to define Frisco’s social character. But it also tells us that as Frisco grows, there is demand for something more than another chain establishment.
Owners Lance and Ursula Clayton moved up from Austin and pursued their dream of opening an independent wine bar. By putting eight | 11 in a restored house at the corner of 6th and Main Street, they brought Austin with them, creating a wine bar with character and comfort.
The food menu is modest in size and includes a variety of bite sized items perfect for sharing with the table or your date.
The wine list is solid, but we like the fact that it won’t overwhelm you with choices. The list is changed regularly, and you’ll find each of the owners’ current favorite highlighted on the menu.
There are also some Texas wines on the list, so don’t be afraid to try something semi-local.
While you’re there, be sure to peek at the chalkboard for specials (you can’t miss it).
Prices are fair across the board. Wine ranges from inexpensive to bottles topping out near $100.
They also carry local beers, sangria, and mimosas (bottomless), if you’re so inclined. With Sunday brunch (which they also serve), we usually are!
eight | 11 Atmosphere
Inside you’ll find eight | 11 to be comfortable, even downright cozy. The wood floors and tables, coupled with a classic interior, help it keep a laid-back “Austin” feel, while still having a polish that fits Frisco.
When you first walk in, a small counter bar greets you in the entry room, but head on in to the main room and seat yourself.
If you’re with a larger group, head toward the back of the main room where the taller 6-tops are. If you’re on a date, grab one of the 2-tops near the front.
The volume inside was perfect. There is enough ambient sound to feel the “buzz” of activity but it’s never loud or intrusive. We found conversation easy to have without yelling across the table. Maybe I’m getting old, but that’s a big plus for me these days.
When the weather allows, head out back. We already know how much Texans love their patios and we’re glad to have another.
eight | 11 has a homey backyard with strings of lights illuminating the picnic tables and wooden fence. I foresee a lot of spring and summer evenings spent enjoying a good bottle of wine out there with friends.
For visitors to Frisco, eight | 11 is a “must visit” and is sure to be a hit if you have wine-loving friends in town. If eight | 11 feels like a well kept secret, it won’t be for long. Frisconians are going to fall in love with this place, and we’re sure they already have many regulars.
eight | 11 is the kind of place we want to see thrive and stick around for a long time.
As for the owners Lance and Ursula, head on in and welcome them to Frisco. We’re glad to have them here, and grateful they’ve given us such a cool little place to hang out and enjoy our grapes!
