Curating Texas Inside Tumbleweed TexStyles’ Downtown Frisco Store

November 13, 2020 by Kelly Walker

This article is sponsored by Tumbleweed TexStyles.

It’s no secret that Frisco loves the story of two FISD teachers starting off selling a few t-shirts a handful of years ago and then turning it into a beloved — and very successful — online biz. The founders, Brian Wysong and Jeb Matulich, are solid guys and community leaders who love to share their passion for Texas through the creation of stylish designs.

Tumbleweed TexStyles‘ products are cool, unique items that we’re proud to both wear and share as gifts. But something has been missing…

Open for Business

Customers wanted a place where we could see, feel, and touch the brand while we shop. Oh, we still love ShopTWT.com — online shopping our favorite Texana brand is still “a thing” and always will be. In fact, that was Tumbleweed’s core (and brilliant) business strategy, to first spread the brand across Texas and the country via the website, and grow from there.

For several years we’ve found co-owners Brian and Jeb working the Tumbleweed TexStyles tent at local events or keeping the customers moving at their pop-up warehouse sales around town.

Now, you can find Tumbleweed TexStlyes at their new brick and mortar store in downtown Frisco, Texas.

It’s official. It’s open, and it’s a thing of Texas-inspired beauty.

To prepare for the big step of opening a store, the Tumbleweed team has grown and shifted. Hillary Wysong, Brian’s wife, who has always been working behind the scenes in design and photography, is now a full-time part of the business. You can’t miss her impact as you drive by and see the signage and posters in the window, courtesy of Hillary’s photography skills.

Having a physical store in the heart of Frisco seems like the best next step in growing our t-shirt business to a full-blown apparel and lifestyle outfitter brand. I’m very excited to have the opportunity to build a team that is as passionate about people, serving our community, Texas, and our brand as we are.

And now that there’s a store, there’s also a store manager, Carissa Gonzales. No stranger to the Tumbleweed TexStyles brand, Carissa grew up in Plano and has lived in Frisco for about 15 years. You’ll see her skills as a former merchandiser and stylist as you step in and soak in all of the Texas curated within.

What’s in Store

So what do we mean by curating Texas in the new store? It means building upon Tumbleweed TexStyles’ fave t-shirts, hats, and glassware. They’re showcasing new categories, new partnerships, and new artists to further pull in what we all love about Texas — music, sports, outdoors, food and beverage, history, and more.

One perk of having the flagship store here in Frisco is being able to shop the products and goods that are unique and are exclusive only to TWT Frisco that can’t be found online or at one of their retailers. Aren’t we lucky? And the shop is located in one of the coolest, walkable destinations in Frisco for shopping, dining, and entertainment, The Rail District.

Check out what’s in store for you at the corner of Frisco’s Main Street and County Road inside The Patios at the Rail):

  • Tumbleweed TexStyles’ popular Frisco t-shirt and hat designs, including recent styles born of the partnership with Whataburger
  • Stationary, stickers, and notebooks
  • Growlers, glassware, Swell water bottles, chillers, and tumblers
  • Texas Chica goodies like tie-dye and retro shirts, stickers, and hats
  • Artwork and prints by Texas artists
  • Dog collars, leashes, toys, and bandanas (partnership with PrideBites, as seen on Shark Tank)
  • Leather keychains, wallets, and coasters (via a Dallas-based leather goods company)
  • Authentic Mexican blankets stitched with a handcrafted leather TWT Cannons patch. (These are perfect to stock up on for picnics, picture sessions, tailgating and gifts for family and teachers!)
  • Clever magnets, books, and cards from the iconic Tex-Mex restaurant El Arroyo

Accessories like clutches, headbands, and scrunchies, and jewelry

  • The new Pioneer Collection of collared snap shirts. The new additions feature some of Tumbleweed’s classic prints like the twin cannons, Texas flag, yellow rose, tumbleweeds of West Texas, bass, and more.

 A Gathering Place

The anticipation of opening this store goes beyond the items within the four walls. For the founders, it’s about connecting with the community.

I’m excited that we finally have a place that locals can come and touch and feel our products. It also gives us a great place to create relationships with customers and tourists. We have a spot in the heart of the city to try out new product offerings exclusive to our shop.  It definitely gives us a lot of flexibility and opportunities moving forward

— Tumbleweed TexStyles’ Co-founder, Jeb Matulich

Jeb and Brian created their Flagship store as a gathering place, a testing site, and a place to continue the “drift and explore” vibe that’s gotten them to this point in time after years of designing and collaborating to bring Texana to others.
