In case you haven’t heard, the City of Frisco is updating our Comprehensive Plan, to guide community development in the years ahead.  The previous version of the Plan was revised in 2006, and a LOT has changed in Frisco since.

A few members of the 2006 Plan revision committee will reprise their roles on the new panel. Several other positions will go to representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, Frisco Economic Development Corporation, Frisco Independent School District, Parks & Recreation Board, and Planning & Zoning Commission.  The 2006 Comprehensive Plan contained strategies regarding future land use, livability, transportation, growth and other issues.  The latest plan version will add initiatives around business/economics, public health, ecology, and natural resources.

On Saturday, May 17th, the City hosted two sessions from 9am to 3pm at which residents studied development maps and considered transportation options, natural resources (land and water features), multi-use retail/residential facilities, and future housing developments.  Participants broke into groups based on the topic that interested them the most and project leaders gathered all our feedback and opinions.

During the entire Saturday session, city leaders stressed the fact that public involvement is an important part of this effort.  Interested individuals and organizations are encouraged to learn more about the project and become involved in shaping Frisco’s future.

If you were unable to attend on Saturday, your voice can still be heard…

Updating the Plan, Process Overview

Phase One is defining the community vision for the future of Frisco. Your ideas, knowledge and perspectives can make important contributions to the future of Frisco. Many different stakeholders – property owners, residents, business owners, community organizations, and public agencies – will make the decisions and investments that will implement this plan and achieve its vision.

Phase Two will determine strategies to help achieve that preferred future. Several alternatives will be considered before developing final recommendations. Strategies will be posted online for community discussion and additional open houses will be held throughout the community. Phase Two activities will take place in the late summer and early fall 2014.

Phase Three will include the review and adoption of the updated Plan (late winter/early spring 2015).

“Cities can either be reactive or proactive.  In Frisco, we’re trying to channel our growth and plan for a future that is best in the long term for our residents and businesses.  It’s very important that we hear from our citizens and businesses – their thoughts, ideas and suggestions in updating our Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is the city’s roadmap to creating the future.”  – John Lettelleir, Director of Development Services

We believe the best way to tackle challenges that affect the community is with the community.  With topics including:

  • Natural assets
  • Life-long community
  • Connectivity
  • Resilient economy
  • Distinctive community identity
  • A vibrant and vital center
  • Frisco icons
  • Your vision / images for Frisco’s Future

Learn how YOU can contribute to the Comprehensive Plan!

By using a platform that allows members of the community to contribute from their own homes and on their own schedules, the City of Frisco believes that we will be able to engage a broader audience.  And with this broader audience comes a broader range of ideas, solutions and participation.

So, who should participate on this site?  You!  The City of Frisco wants your ideas, your feedback, your comments, and your point of view. Together, we can build a better Frisco for now and the future.
