Who better than the Team Leader for Orthopedics at Children’s Health Andrews Institute to give us pointers on keeping our youth athletes healthy? And the tips might surprise you. More is not always better. Focus and intensity on one sport is not always better. Early sports specialization under age 15, for example, might be contributing to injuries and burnout. Stephen says, “It’s better for your kids to play multiple sports and do multiple things.”
Take some time off from sports. (Yes, I said it here in Frisco, Texas.) Rest, sleep and a healthy mix of a variety of sports might be the right combination for your athlete to stay healthier on the court or field, and happier at home, too.
