How to Host a Fabulous Frisco Friendsgiving

November 15, 2017 by Liz Edelbrock
Friendsgiving Dinner Party

Do you Friendsgiving?

Because if you don’t, you should. Friendsgiving is all the good of Thanksgiving, without the stress of potential family squabbles, screaming children or dealing with your drunk Uncle Mike (we all have one, it’s okay).

If you don’t have a Friendsgiving planned yet, don’t despair. Local Frisco event planner Sarah Herman from AK Event Design gave me the top tips for throwing together a fabulous adult event that focuses on friends, food, and fun. Drunk uncles not included.

The Internet is Your Friend.

Look, time is limited and you want to throw a party. Thankfully, sites like Evite and Paperless Post allow you to send attractive, themed invitations to friends. Bonus, both sites feature tools that allow you to coordinate pot-luck dishes, which is key for any Friendsgiving.

Eat.

Thanksgiving has a pretty standard menu, but Friendsgiving doesn’t need to follow that pattern. Pick a theme, any theme! Then let your menu follow. Traditionally, the host provides the main dish and guests bring something to share. Be sure to let friends know what the main dish will be so they can coordinate appropriately.

Drink.

A signature cocktail can make any event feel special. Check Pinterest to find a concoction that fits with your Friendsgiving theme and have fun with it! Consider one for the men and one for the ladies. Be sure to check out Bottled in Bond’s classic recipes as well!

Be Merry.

Sure, sharing a meal with friends is fun, but you know what makes it even more fun? Games, of course. Take turns sharing a fun memory or moment about someone around the dinner table. Or get wild and crazy with a pie eating contest for dessert.

Shop Local.

Decorations, party favors, desserts, oh my! Everything you need can be purchased from a local Frisco business. A good place to start is the Frisco Mercantile, whose more than 200 vendors are sure to have exactly what you need for a beautiful table. For a more casual event, you can find paper goods, favors, and balloons at Frisco’s Party City.

Think Outside the Box.

It’s a day to celebrate friendships, so think about what would make the party most special for your guests. If it sounds fun, make it a part of your event! Anything goes. And when Friendsgiving is over, make sure to send your guests home with a special treat. According to Sarah, your party is only as good as your favor. Edible treats are always a hit, like custom decorated sugar cookies from Frisco bakery Haute Mama Dessert Company. Also, check out “Hidden Gem Sweet Spots in Frisco” for other sweet ideas!

So what are you waiting for? Use these simple tips to host your own Friendsgiving this holiday season. Enjoy!
