It’s no news that Frisco ISD is immensely talented in athletics. But there is perhaps no better gauge of talent than to look at Division I recruitment lists. And there is no shortage of former Frisco footballers whose names have popped up frequently on scout’s lists.
Here’s a look at where the pride of Frisco football will be playing their college ball.
RB Kene Nwangwu—Frisco Heritage
After contemplating offers from a multitude of programs, running back extraordinaire Kene Nwangwu decided to take his talents to Iowa State University.
Alongside fellow future graduate Bubba Ogbebor, Nwangwu provide the ground game in this awesome one-two punch. A 2014 recipient of the Lifestyle Frisco MVP, he added another hyperbolic season to close out his high school career, as rushing for 1,470 yards with 17 TDs last season.
WR Bubba Ogbebor—Frisco Heritage
Once again, senior wide receiver Bubba Ogbebor had a superlative season as one of the area’s top pass catchers. All told, Ogbebor tallied 61 receptions for 1,141 yards with 14 TDs.
His 18-yard per catch average was definitely something that caught the eye of multiple D-I college football programs. As of this writing, Ogbebor was still deciding between Boise State, Texas Tech, Iowa, Kansas or Minnesota, amongst others. Regardless of where he ends up, you’d better believe he’ll be doing damage on Saturdays.
DB Raleigh Texada—Frisco Centennial
Raleigh Texada developed quite the reputation over his three years as a starter for the Frisco Centennial Titans. Not only was one of the premier defensive backs in the state, but he was also very effective on offense too, as he averaged over nine yards both per reception as well as rushing attempt.
Baylor Bear fans should be beside themselves in excitement as Texada will join fellow Frisco ISD standout Chris Miller for what looks to be one nasty secondary for years to come.
DB Chris Miller—Frisco Lone Star
The fact that the Rangers’ Chris Miller is the lone name from Lone Star’s squad is a testament to the team’s youth rather than lack of premium talent; after all, Jaylen Dixon is just a sophomore and Jason Shelley merely a junior.
The 6” 185 lb Miller is one of the unheralded players on the Rangers mighty 2015 defense that played a crucial role in aiding their ascension all the way to the State Championship game. Miller will play alongside Centennial’s Raleigh Texada next year as a member of the Baylor Bears.
OL Jacob Todora—Frisco Wakeland
Jacob Todora excelled at a position that is far too often overlooked—offensive line. In today’s up-tempo style of football, it is very important that the quarterback have enough room to either commit to a pocket pass or take to the ground to create both separation from defenders and open up other opportunities.
Todora has very quick feet for his size and this enables him to fend off not just one rusher but multiple defenders when he is double-teamed (as he often was). The 6’4”, 27o-pounder will be playing college ball for the SMU Mustangs this fall.
