Solo travel continues to be a big trend these days, and the millennial and wanderlust in me are constantly filling up my calendar with big dreams and adventures, while also dreaming of and planning for my next vacation. You only live once, right?
However, due to the pandemic, I’ve put my usual travel on hold. Instead, I’ve been spending a lot of quality time with myself and making self-care a top priority. It’s proven that solitude can improve your mood, reduce stress, and give you more peace of mind.
So if you’re single, married, or just looking for some “me time” activities, there are plenty of ways to keep yourself entertained in and around Frisco. If you’re new to spending time by yourself, here are a few suggestions of things I like to do solo in the city and how you might come to love them too:
Plan a staycation.
Staycations have been one of my favorite things to do during the pandemic. I love checking out new hotels in the area, and with the year the hotel industry had, our business is much appreciated. I recently stayed at the new Hyatt in Frisco and it’s fabulous! A great bar and restaurant, a spacious room, a comfortable bed, and it offers just the right amount of luxury. Consider planning a stay for your birthday or a weekend getaway; bring a good book and a journal and you’ll be set for the best alone time!
Pro tip: a few of the Frisco hotels offer deals for local residents. The Hyatt Regency Frisco-Dallas offers a $99 rate with code FRIS99, and the Omni Frisco Hotel offers a $99 as well (just ask for the “neighbor rate”). Sheraton Stonebriar offers Texas residents a “Friends and Family” rate of $79 with the code LPR. Not to be outdone, The Westin Stonebriar offers 20% off with the code LQ1.
Go to the movies.
If you’re apprehensive about spending time by yourself, going to the movies is a great place to start. You can avoid the awkward feeling of people staring at you (which by the way, no one is actually doing) and enjoy some peace and quiet while checking out the latest film. Also, movie crowds are pretty light right now so it’s the perfect time to try it out.
Dine at your favorite restaurant.
For everyone worried about sitting at a restaurant by yourself, I promise it’s not as weird as it might seem. No one is staring at you wondering why you’re there alone; they’re just enjoying their meal and minding their business – just like you should!
Pro tip: I like sitting at the bar when I can or a booth is always a good idea. If you really want to challenge yourself, leave your phone in your car so you’re free from all distractions.
Try Bottled In Bond Cocktail Parlour and Kitchen or another of the many fantastic restaurants featured by Lifestyle Frisco.
Enjoy a solo spa date.
Nothing says self-care more than pampering yourself. I look forward to my regular nail salon visits and those few hours of quality time with me, myself, and I. Let Groupon be your friend if you’re looking to save some money – there are plenty of massage and nail packages available to choose from! If you’re ready for next-level, five-star pampering, try Culture A Day Spa.
Explore the many nature trails and parks of Frisco.
Did you know Frisco is home to 49 different parks? A few times a week I like to take a nice, long walk at one of my favorite parks around town; it’s a great activity to do solo while getting some exercise and clearing your mind.
Whether you’re looking for a walking trail, taking your bike out, or just want to sit outside and be with nature, there are more than enough options for you. While you’re enjoying the great outdoors, listen to this interview with Frisco Councilman Bill Woodard who recently shared an update about the future of Frisco’s parks and trails!
