W Lone Star (11-1) VS Prosper (6-6)—24-10
Only once during the 2015 regular season had the Rangers of Lone Star failed to score at least 28 points. Fittingly, it was during their Week 10 loss at the hands of Frisco High, when they were held to just 12 points.
In the playoffs, as the competition becomes fierce, points aren’t quite as easy to come by as Lone Star made it look for the majority of the season. Regardless, 24 points were more than enough as Jason Shelley (372 total yards, 3 TDs) shredded the Prosper d-line for 212 yds and 2 TDs on the ground, and even connected with WR Colby Shelton for 30-yard first quarter strike that gave the Rangers their all-important first lead of the game, one they would never relinquish.
Up Next: 2015 UIL Region II Area Round—VS Forney (9-3)
L Frisco (8-4) @ Love Joy (9-3)—10-34
As is their modus operandi, the Love Joy Leopards made it a point to attack the Raccoons’ secondary. After all, the Leopards did have the area’s top-ranked passing offense, averaging just 270 yards per game.
Leopards’ QB Bowman Sells (324 total yards, 4 TDs), threw three first-half touchdowns to three different receivers, as Love Joy rolled to a 20-3 lead entering halftime.
Frisco’s Idrees Ali (87 yds, TD) scored on an 18-yard run late in the fourth quarter, but by then it was too late, as the Leopards cruised to a three-possession win and punched their ticket to this week’s UIL Area Round.
L Frisco Wakeland (8-4) VS Wylie (8-4)—21-31
Arguably, there was no team hotter heading into the playoffs than the Wakeland Wolverines. After all, they had won seven consecutive games in a district that is one of the toughest in the area.
But a balanced attack by the Wylie Pirates, combined with timely defense, held Wakeland to just one score—via a Cole Starnes 10-yard run—through the first three quarters. Down 24-7 heading into the fourth, RB Jay Orji (143 yds, TD) brought the Wolverines within 10, but a Jordan Wadley TD grab on Wylie’s next possession put the game out of reach for good, as the Pirates pull off the upset and head to this week’s Area Round. Wolverine’s QB Mason Doerr threw for 252 yds and a score in the losing effort.
L Frisco Legacy Christian (7-5) @ Houston Northland Christian (10-2)—14-48
After missing the postseason last season and going winless in their new division, Frisco Legacy rebounded for a very solid 2015 campaign. Unfortunately, they were pitted against one of the state’s best private schools in Houston Northland Christian during the initial playoff round.
Chase Eisenmann rushed for 147 yards, and WR Pepper Snider had a big game too, as he caught six passes for 83 yds and a score, but the Cougars’ offense racked up over 500 yards and used the legs of RB Derrick Arrington (190 yds, 2 TDs) and arm of QB Michael Massarella (193 yds, 3 TDs), to glide to an easy win.
