Will You Help the Legends Make a Difference This Summer?

July 9, 2020 by Kelly Walker
Texas Legends Mission of the Month

This article is sponsored by the Texas Legends.

Nearly everything this year has been unexpected, so Christmas in July fits right in!

Throughout the month of July, the Texas Legends, in partnership with Goliath Games, will host “Christmas in July,” collecting toys for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County and Heroes for Children — two local charities near and dear to both organizations.

Headquartered in Richardson, Texas, Goliath’s games and activities are sold in over 75 countries. Their partnership with the Legends was built on community impact, utilizing sports and entertainment to help those in need. Texas Legends President and General Manager, Malcolm Farmer, shared,

When we met with Goliath, they brought the idea of Christmas in July to us after hearing about our Mission of the Month program. This was an avenue for the two of us to join forces in a way that made sense for both, and maximized our reach in the community.

Texas LegendsChristmas in July for the Boys and Girls Club and Heroes for Children recipients will be possible when fans and community members simply donate a toy (or two or three!).

The toy drive will run throughout the month of July 2020 with bins set up at the Northeast corner of the Comerica Center (2601 Avenue of the Stars, Frisco, TX 75034).

The bins will be available 24/7 with donations taken inside daily.

You can even involve your own family to pay it forward. If your household is like ours, your kids’ summer camps were canceled. Wouldn’t it be a great lesson to take a piece of that camp refund and let your child pick out and donate a gift to another child in need?

It’s something we teach them about every holiday season, but it’ll feel just as good to do this with your children in July!

Serving Youth this Summer

The Christmas in July toy drive isn’t the only thing the Texas Legends are doing this summer to help serve youth in and around Frisco. This month’s Mission of the Month program focuses on helping Frisco ISD students.

As we approach the unique school year ahead of us, the needs of some students are greater than ever. July’s Mission of the Month is a school supply drive for the Title 1 campuses of Frisco ISD. Legends fans and members are encouraged to bring items at the drop off locations at the Legends offices.

Let’s see if we can help fill those bins for the Title 1 campuses. As you hit the stores this month, consider picking up some of these supplies to drop in the Mission of the Month bins:

  • Construction Paper
  • Dividers
  • Scotch Tape
  • Elmer’s Glue Sticks
  • Plastic 12″ Rulers
  • Lanyards
  • #2 Pencils
  • Colored Pencils
  • Pens (Black, Blue, and Red)
  • Individual Pencil Sharpeners
  • Expo Markers
  • 1″ Binders
  • Audio Earphones
  • Folders with Brads (All Colors)
  • Wide Ruled Composition Book
  • Wide Ruled Notebook Paper
  • Pencil Boxes
  • Scissors

The Legends are on a Mission

As referenced above, each month, the Legends select a different non-profit in the area and collect donation items needed by that organization.

Recent Mission of the Month initiatives included collecting teddy bears for Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County, providing Vogel Alcove with diapers, wipes, laundry detergent, and toilet paper, and collecting pet supplies for Shutt’er Down Ranch!

Central KIA has been committed to the North Dallas community for years but decided to partner with the Legends to expand their reach and empower the Legends family to aid their community. Central Kia has now officially partnered with the Legends for Mission of the Month, serving as a driving force behind each mission. Malcolm Farmer shared,

Central Kia loved what we have been doing with the Mission of the Month program for the past two years, so when the opportunity opened up for them to be involved, they jumped at it. This allows for a natural growth of the program with donation bins set up on-site at Central Kia as well. It gives our non-profit partners exposure with their customers and highlights Central Kia’s philanthropic side to the Legends Family.
