I wish I could brag about my stellar backhand or my perfect topspin. Truth be told, I’m having a good day on the tennis courts if the ball makes it over the net. My husband is the only legitimate tennis player in my family.
Still, I love to hit the courts. At this stage of my life, with young children, I love tennis because it’s a free, family activity. My kids are not quite ready to play a match, but they love to swing a racket and chase tennis balls.
Tennis is called “the sport for a lifetime” for many reasons. The United States Tennis Association outlines 34 reasons to play tennis, and proves why it is one of the best sports to play. Tennis is a sport to learn early in life, and to play well into your senior years.
Frisco offers many public tennis courts where we can play to our hearts’ content without paying a membership fee. If your commitment to the game goes beyond a little family fun on a Saturday, then you may prefer a private tennis club.
So, anyone up for a game of tennis? Here’s the scoop on public and private tennis courts in the City of Frisco.
Public Tennis Courts
Frisco Parks and Recreation
The City of Frisco provides several public tennis courts in our community, each a part of a larger recreation area. Warren Sports Complex has 2 lighted courts available on a first come, first served basis. Tennis classes offered through the Parks and Rec department meet here as well. (Visit Friscofun.org for more information about classes and schedules.) There are 2 community tennis courts at Cannaday Recreation Area, as well as Shawnee Trail Sports Complex.
Frisco ISD middle schools and high schools have quality tennis courts on campus. They are available for community use without a reservation. There are a few things to remember: the school’s needs take priority, you must wear proper shoes, and pets are not permitted. For more details about utilizing Frisco ISD tennis courts, visit the FISD community web page.
