Top 10 Reasons We Can’t Wait for Whole Foods in Frisco

April 29, 2014 by Lydia Boyce
Whole Foods Market
Whole Foods Market

Hey you foodies, juicers, gluten-free-ers and general public who eats food, I have some pretty amazing news.  Whole Foods is coming to Frisco!!

Yes, your weekly grocery bill just went up in the best way possible as this 45,000 square foot darling will be the anchor for a pretty sizeable mixed-use development on the southeast corner of the Dallas North Tollway and Lebanon Road.  Stock up on your reusable bags and yoga pants, and get ready for Whole Foods to come to Frisco in Fall 2015.

I confess… I’m a Whole Foods addict.  I’m a juicing, free-range eggs, and organic food freak, and WholeFoods is like my playground.  So, here are 10 reasons you need to be excited for this new Frisco feature:

1. Buying bulk  You might not believe me, but some things are actually CHEAPER at Whole Foods. I know; I know; it sounds crazy, but Whole Foods has a unique section where you can buy certain foods/ingredients in bulk sans the packaging. It’s great for buying nuts, granola, rice, flour, sugar and more!   Look for organic and nonorganic options, depending on your preference.  I’m a regular almond eater during those weeks that I’m a vegetarian, and I find that buying my snack at Whole Foods is actually cheaper than a certain common almond brand we all know and love.

2. Shopping experience  I worked in the customer service biz for years (or, what felt like decades), so I know quality service when I experience it, and I’m willing to pay a little extra to have a positive experience.  Not only do you experience exceptionally good  service from the staff, whom I can only assume is so smiley due to their GMO-free lifestyle, but the aisles are nice and wide, the lines move quickly, and it’s just a good-looking store.  There are some certain large chains that after shopping, I leave feeling a little sadder than when I entered.

3. Ready to eat  Whole Foods also has a great selection of ready-to-eat items.  You might walk in with these grand ideas of the filet and sautéed veggies, but leave with a sandwich, sushi, pizza, or salad.  They are all pre-packaged, ready to be devoured, and reasonably priced. As a bonus, they’re usually organic so you can feel a little better about those brisket tacos.

4. Guilt-free(ish) delights  I have quite the sweet tooth.  I don’t understand those that aren’t “dessert people” and I crave something sweet after almost every meal.  Whole Foods has a wonderful selection of cookies, ice cream, and candy that is organic, naturally sugar-free, and just a little less bad for you than other sweets.  I’m not saying you should be switching out your side salads for some side chocolate ice cream, but you can feel a little bit better about what you’re putting into your body.

5. Unique alcohol selections  I’m no wine expert by any means, but I can tell you that the alcohol selection at Whole Foods is top notch.  They have wines from all over the world and unique beers for you to choose from.  Plus, they usually offer a cool local selection of beers so you can get out of your Bud Light box and instead perhaps try some Deep Ellum Brewery IPA (my personal favorite).

6. Local  Everything about Whole Foods is local.  For starters, the company grew from Austin, so right off the bat you’re supporting your local Texas economy. On top of that, Whole Foods typically has locally grown options for many of the products in their store. For example, I discovered Oak Cliff Roasters (so delicious) from exploring the coffee aisle for new flavors.  Oak Cliff Roasters is located in Dallas, so it’s a little better than stocking up on Folgers from who knows where.

7. Weird ingredients  Several months ago, I purchased the Gwyneth Paltrow It’s All Good cookbook.  What wasn’t all good is that I hadn’t heard of many of the ingredients her recipes called for.  What’s great about Whole Foods is you can find that weird stuff, and by “you can find” what I really mean is you can ask customer service what that ingredient even is and they can help you track it down (see #2 on customer service).

8. Free Wi-Fi/patio  Leave Starbucks behind with the free Wi-Fi available at most Whole Foods locations.  They usually offer a great patio or indoor seating, so bring your laptops, plug in, grab your carrot juice, and get to work!

9. Bath ingredients  You know how if you grocery shop at Target you usually leave with a new pair of shoes or sporting equipment?  Well, Whole Foods does that to you too.  You might be going in for some gluten-free muffin mix, but you’ll leave with some deliciously smelling bath salts and soaps.  It’s all so yummy… Lavender bath bubbles, here I come!

10. Samples  Ohhh. the samples!  You have NO idea how many delicious snacks and cheeses you are missing out on.  Almost every day there are new flavors of kale chips, cheddar cheese, popcorn, bread, energy juices, and more for you and your taste buds to enjoy.  Going to the store hungry is no longer something you should avoid, in fact it’s practically encouraged.

The opening of Whole Foods can’t come soon enough. I’m so excited for this new addition to the grocery options in Frisco, and you should be too!
