Theatre Frisco Presents Pulitzer Winning “Crimes of the Heart”

Theatre Frisco is presenting SMU graduate Beth Henley’s play, “Crimes of the Heart” at the Black Box Theater beginning September 29. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award and nominated for a Tony Award, “Crimes of the Heart” takes place in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital.

Lenny, the oldest sister, is unmarried at thirty and facing diminishing marital prospects; Meg, the middle sister, who quickly outgrew Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband in the stomach. Their troubles, grave and yet, somehow, hilarious, are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick, and by the awkward young lawyer who tries to keep Babe out of jail while helpless not to fall in love with her. In the end, the play is the story of how its young characters escape the past to seize the future—but the telling is so true and touching and consistently hilarious that it will linger in the mind long after the curtain has descended.

“Crimes of the Heart” is Theatre Frisco’s third show in their 2017 four-show season. The production has a well-seasoned cast of actors under the direction of longtime DFW theatre veteran, Shane Hurst and highlights Theatre Frisco’s dedication to bringing professional quality live entertainment to the community.

The show will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from September 29 to October 15 with both 8:00 evening performances and 2:30 matinees available. Tickets are $20 with discounts for seniors, active military and students and are available at theatrefrisco.com or 972-370-2266.

Formerly known as Frisco Community Theatre, the same dedicated group of volunteers have been putting on live theatre in Frisco since 1992. They’re driven to provide the best theatre experience for their patrons.
