History was made this past Thursday when PJ Hairston’s name was called for the 26th pick in the NBA Draft. It marked the first time a NBA D-League player was drafted in the 1st round.
Hairston was selected by the Miami Heat, but was involved in a trade that sent him to the Charlotte Hornets, with the opportunity to be mentored by Michael Jordan.
“I just want to thank the Texas Legends for the opportunity that helped me attain my dream. I can’t wait to get started in the NBA and show how ready I am.” ~~ PJ Hairston
Hairston chose to forego his junior season of college and enter the D-League after UNC decided to not reinstate him. In Hairston’s time with the Legends, he averaged 21.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and was 36% from beyond the arc.
“Couldn’t be prouder of PJ,” Legends owner Donnie Nelson stated. “All his hard work and dedication has paid off. Being the first D-League first round pick in the history of the NBA makes him a TRUE Texas Legend!”
From all of Frisco, CONGRATULATIONS PJ, on making history!
