On one of my recent visits to downtown Frisco, a friend and business owner mentioned a local lady who was soon to open a bakery in the area. Following a little research, I found Nicki Cooley, a self-taught baker, decorator, and owner of “Sweets on a Stick”, a specialty bakery producing delectable occasion cookies, cake pops and treats.
Nicki is a Texas native who grew up in North Plano before moving to Frisco in 2011. Already an established business since 2012, she hoped one day to realize her dream of setting up a commercial kitchen to bring her creative talent to more people in Frisco.
I would drive down the historic downtown area of Frisco and dream of opening my business in one of these charming homes” she explains.
Inspired with ideas from all walks of life and every occasion, all of her sweet products are baked with premium ingredients and custom made by hand, producing what she describes as “a personalized work of edible art”!
She wanted to expand the business beyond the confines of a home bakery so after much patience, earlier this year Nicki finally acquired one of the lovely old houses on Pecan Street, just a couple blocks south of old Main Street (and home to another charming Frisco business, House of Hadley Kate.)
Eventually, she intends to bring people into her new premises to offer cake decorating classes (January 2018), themed BYOB nights for groups, and children’s parties.
In the meantime, Sweets on a Stick is already offering “to-go parties” where Nicki can bring the decorating to your venue of choice. You just provide the space and the tables, and she will do the rest. It’s perfect for birthday parties, church groups, showers, girl’s night out or corporate team building. Anyone can participate, no experience is required…it’s all about the fun. She describes her classes and parties as “dummy-proof”.
The goal is to have fun, and to create something delicious! Our classes are geared towards everyone, whether they are experienced bakers or have never lifted a piping bag.”
Also on offer are sweet table packages for weddings and other events. If you don’t see something that fits your needs, she’s more than willing to meet together and work with your ideas to create the perfect event. On-site cake pop dipping is also an option where she can come to your event and dip cake pops to order.
Permits are now official and construction work is in its final phase on the new location. There will be plenty of space to welcome the residents of Frisco and surrounding cities, and additional parking can be arranged for private events.
How lucky are we to have yet another creative Frisco local to enrich the downtown area with a charming and beautiful business idea? Nicki will list some holiday season pre-order specials on her website around Oct. 15th and please save the date for her Open House Event on October 28th. It will be a come and go event with samples, giveaways and lots of sweets to purchase. Until then, why not start browsing their beautifully designed website and Facebook page for your first order? You’ll enjoy perusing their unique design ideas! Already there are cute gold polka-dot pumpkins and Halloween themes!
