Soaring Under the Stars in Frisco With Starlight Flight

Suad Bejtovic Photography

You may have seen our video from the sky over the holidays. The Star, Frisco Square, even the Tollway looks pretty at night when you’re flying above it! Not to mention the beautiful neighborhoods who decked the halls with their twinkling house lights.

When Starlight Flight offered to take us up to see the lights from above, we couldn’t say no.

Wendi, Suad, and I braved the cold and took off from Addison Airport right as the sun set in late December. Our goal was to take photos and capture all the lights in Frisco during the holidays.

If you’re not afraid to fly…keep reading!

The Experience

The Starlight Flight experience begins with pulling up to a private airport lounge stocked with coffees, waters, snacks, and all of the luxury magazines from across Dallas. I was glad we arrived early so we could sit back and take it all in.

You’ll need to sign a waiver, which is the standard operating procedure for things like this. But, it’s also another reason to get there early so you’re not rushed. When it’s time for your flight, your pilot will brief you on what to expect, then walk you out to the plane.

The Starlight Flight plane is a 1999 Cessna 182 and seats four people, including the pilot. It’s small, but comfortable, and climate-controlled so you don’t have to worry about freezing or burning up.

Anyone is welcome! There is no minimum age, so you can fly with three adults, or even one adult and two kids!

Once inside, you’ll put on a headset to protect your hearing and make it easier for everyone in the cabin to communicate. A small aircraft like this is noisy compared to a typical commercial flight. You can even listen in on the tower chatter if you want to immerse yourself in the experience. Unless you’re a pilot, it won’t make any sense, but it’s still fun to listen to!

For the next 30 – 60 minutes, depending on your package, you’ll enjoy amazing views flying a couple thousand feet in the sky.

Your pilot will likely ask for your input about what you want to see, including whether you want to make multiple passes of a specific landmark like we did around Frisco Square.

Pro Tip: You’ll feel the temptation to take a lot of pictures during the flight. But the time flies by very quickly, so be sure you don’t spend the entire flight trying to get that perfect photo and miss the experience. This is especially important if you’re flying at sunset or at night.

At the end of your flight, you’ll land back at Addison Airport feeling like a VIP since you’ll only have to walk about fifty feet from the plane to your car.

But before you leave, look around at the many other jets and aircraft in the area. With some goal-inspiring planes all around, you’ll be tempted to take pictures, but please keep in mind that’s frowned upon for privacy purposes.
