When it comes to holiday events and places to shop in this busy season, there’s no end to the options available in Frisco, but one of my favorite parts to spend time is our historic downtown. I’m sure, like me, many of you drive up and down on a regular basis, but parking the car and getting out to visit local vendors and eateries can make for a stress free experience this time of year.
Established in 1902, “old downtown Frisco” includes quite a few old buildings in this historic area still standing and they now house various businesses and stores that are a delight to explore. Currently, old downtown is going through somewhat of a revival and evolution with new businesses moving in and investors discovering the potential of this quaint area. While new families continue to move here at rapid rate, more people are seeking a place to experience that “small town feel” away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
This year the Downtown Merchants Association is proud to present a first time event for the community on Sunday December 18th – “Santa comes to 4th Street.” It all kicks off with Santa arriving just after 5 pm. He’ll sit in the gazebo ready to greet families, listen to the little ones Christmas wish list, and take photos.
A lot of your favorite stores will open that day and joining in the celebration too, most from 1 pm. So why not enjoy a little local shopping beforehand in places like Lilian Welch, Bittersweet Ivy, The Blue Door, and Sunny Paige?!
The parking lot at the back of the Municipal Court Building, 6865 Main Street, will be cleared and heaters in place, so bring your folding chairs, cushions, and blankets to enjoy the classic movie ‘Home Alone’ along with hot chocolate! The 5th Street Patio Café food truck will be on-site along with a popcorn vendor. Eight 11 Place will be serving their usual menu, plus offering free s’mores for kids that night and some amazing mulled wine available to keep all the parents warm!
With the kids starting their winter break from school on Friday, December 16th, what better way to get in to the Holiday Spirit, experience some family fun, and spend some time mixing with the local community in this special part of town!
