“I can’t believe we are here!” exclaimed Daniel Moon, Vice President of the Sam Moon Group as he looked around with pride at the people present to mark the official groundbreaking of their newest hotel venture. Mayor Jeff Cheney, City of Frisco officials, Visit Frisco representatives, members of the FEDC, and the Korean Society of Dallas were all present to congratulate the family on such a momentous occasion.
The Hyatt Regency Stonebriar will be an 18-story, 303-room hotel on the northwest side of the Stonebriar Centre shopping mall, featuring a 50,000 square foot conference center, parking garage to accommodate 800 spaces and a 3000 square foot city library. The library will be an extension of the Frisco Public Library available for use by hotel visitors and city residents. The structure when complete will connect directly to the mall on the second floor located between Nordstrom and Dillard’s.
In an exclusive interview just before the official groundbreaking began, Daniel Moon shared,
This project was not without its share of twists and turns, presenting the most challenges of any previous work we had undertaken. Building a hotel onto an existing structure like the Stonebriar mall can prove complex, however, patience prevailed, and we are so excited to be part of a super unique venture. This project symbolizes hard work, determination and collaboration.
Also in attendance, David Moon, Chief Executive and Chairman of Sam Moon Group, paid an emotional tribute to his family. The first-generation Korean and founder of the company recalled the time they moved to Dallas 35 years ago and he worked 6 days a week to provide.
Not in my wildest dreams did I think we would one day own a hotel, but here we are!
Frisco already sees a steady business from travelers attending various conventions held at local venues. As the home to seven professional sports teams (Dallas Cowboys, FC Dallas, Frisco RoughRiders, Dallas Stars, Texas Legends, Dallas Rattlers, and the Texas Revolution) the city also draws lots of out-of-town visitors for sporting events.
This luxury hotel will offer sweeping views of Frisco with unparalleled convenience and amenities for those guests. Mayor Jeff Cheney shared,
We’re fortunate to partner with Sam Moon Group, which is bringing quality and creativity to this state-of-the-art development. This public-private partnership represents Frisco’s commitment to reinvest in Stonebriar Centre, long considered Frisco’s first economic engine dating back to 2000. We believe this project helps keep our successful ‘Stonebriar’ stay fresh and relevant. We’re also excited to offer additional space for our Frisco Public Library, already a popular destination. This ‘micro’ library will cater to preschoolers through second graders. We’re confident our residents, visitors and conventioneers will enjoy the convenience of having a high-end Hyatt Regency Stonebriar, a conference center and library space connected to our mall. Lifestyles are changing, and this project promotes a new way of living, visiting and doing business in Frisco.”
We’re honored to invest in this new generation development,” Ron Patterson, president, Frisco EDC. “We’re also thankful for quality partners like the Moon family who share our vision to elevate economic development in one of Frisco’s most recognizable gateways. This addition exemplifies how our Stonebriar district is ever evolving, in step with the latest trends in retail and entertainment.”
Offering a contemporary reflection of Frisco’s journey from wagon trains and cattle drives of its past, to the shopping destination and stadiums it is known for today, the Hyatt Regency Stonebriar offers a sophisticated palette and vibrant spirit.
The design evokes a genuine Texas flavor created with subtle textures, warm colors and tactile natural materials, all softly tailored and thoughtfully balanced for a timeless look. Inspired by Frisco’s retail sensibilities, soft architectural lighting and dramatic focal elements highlight key spaces and guide guests throughout the Hyatt experience whether it be a productive work session in the Make Space or family breakfast in the Marketplace. This hotel celebrates the personality of its community and the vibrant spirit of its people.
The project aims for completion in the first quarter of 2020. Among the Sam Moon Group’s hotel projects are the Renaissance Legacy in Plano, Texas; Hyatt Place Alliance in Fort Worth, Texas; and Metropark Square in The Woodlands, Texas trade area.
From an idea first born in 2014, Ron Patterson highlighted,
Everyone here present pulled together to achieve the same goal and clear vision for Frisco.
This venture will most certainly keep the nearly 18-year-old Stonebriar Centre Mall at Preston Road and State Highway 121 vibrant for years to come.
