Red Spoon: Frisco’s Delicious, Family-Friendly Asian Restaurant
“Say again? Restaurant with a play place??” My eyes widened as I read the text recommendation from a local Frisco friend. It’s almost a requirement these days when you are faced with the challenge of trying to dine out with the little ones. Wonderful! Maybe someone was paying attention to feedback from a Moms of Toddlers group. Of course you can go to McDonald’s, Chic-Fil-A, or even Taco Bell to find the play place; but this is a table service restaurant, not just a fast food offering!
Nestled in the corner of Hillcrest & Rolater in East Frisco, once the home of Johnny’s Ice House, Red Spoon is a new Asian Bistro Restaurant, offering a diverse menu of Chinese, Japanese and Korean food.
Greeted with a friendly welcome, our family of four entered the premises to find a spacious interior with a waiting area and nice choice of seating. We had a choice of bar or table service, including some cozy high backed booths providing privacy away from the children’s area, should you be alone or prefer less distraction.
After choosing to sit near the kids’ play area, we were immediately offered a complimentary portion of sushi to sample. The waitress promptly took our drinks order and offered menus, making a point of acknowledging our girls by pointing out the kids’ menu.
The said play area is compact, housing a play tent, large box of wooden train tracks, white board, and chalk board to name a few pf the items that held their attention while we waited on our food. No need for the crayons and coloring books or electronic games to quell the usual impatience at the table, they were in their element with simple choices of toys and making friends.
Our main course choices of Sweet & Sour Chicken and Szechwan Beef were delivered exactly on time, just as we were completing our appetizer of fresh crispy vegetable Spring Rolls. Portions were generous and accompanied by tasty fried rice. The food was right on for spice level and not a trace of the greasiness I sometimes find in other establishments.
We all enjoyed a truly delicious meal in a pleasant, friendly atmosphere, with efficient service and reasonable prices. Give it a try, we’ll definitely be back.
Note: Red Spoon is a BYOB restaurant and also offers delivery to the local area.
