What is Day 1 Dallas?
Day 1 Dallas is presented by Vogel Alcove, a nonprofit organization that helps children recover from the traumatic effects of homelessness. Proceeds from the Day 1 Dallas will benefit Vogel Alcove and its mission. (Scroll down to learn MORE.)
The event offers hours and hours of fun activities for all age ranges, so be sure to bring the whole family. 90% of the activities are indoors, even at Dr Pepper Ballpark, so come out and play no matter what the Texas weather has in store for us that day.

About Vogel Alcove
There’s a reason Day 1 Dallas is highly focused on families and children. The event is presented by Vogel Alcove, a 501c3 nonprofit agency that provides therapeutic early childhood services, school-age programs, and family support services for homeless children ages six weeks to 12 years old, and their families.
Since 1987, the agency has served more than 16,000 Dallas-area homeless children. They’re on a mission to help young children, and their families, overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness.
Approximately 3,000 children in Dallas go to sleep each night without a home of their own. It’s the vision of Vogel Alcove that every child in our community has a home, a self-sufficient family and a foundation for success in school and life — and the clock is ticking. 90% of brain development happens by the age of five.
Without intervention at this critical time, homeless children may suffer lifelong social, emotional and educational deficits.
Vogel Alcove understands that children living in trauma face unique challenges. Their highly-trained teachers and staff provide therapeutic early childhood and school-age programs, family support and physical/mental health services, all tailored to the needs of homeless children ages six weeks to 12 years old.
Homelessness inflicts trauma on children’s lives. Vogel Alcove gives them hope for a bright future.
Vogel Alcove is focused on a two-generational approach to solving homelessness.
Their primary demographic served is preschool-age children between the ages of six weeks to five years old. They focus on curriculum and counseling to ensure the kids are kindergarten-ready as they age into the school system.
They serve as many as 200 children each day, allowing them to learn, grow and thrive in a place free from hunger or trauma.
While the children are in the care of Vogel Alcove, their parents, most of whom are single mothers, have the opportunity to work, look for work or go to school. They give homeless families a chance to overcome their circumstances.
Vogel Alcove is unique in that they’re a comprehensive, early childhood education center for homeless children and families that focuses on removing toxic stress and trauma to help break the cycle of poverty.
Celebrating the New Year with Renewed Hope and a Bright Future for ALL.
Day 1 Dallas is celebrating its 5th birthday! The one-of-a-kind event was created to bring children and families together on New Year’s Day. You can be a part of supporting the vision of Vogel Alcove by attending the event! We can’t think of a better way to kick off 2020.
