Main Street will be closed between Preston Road and Custer Road starting at 10:00 p.m. Friday night, October 3, and will reopen by 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning, October 4, with traffic switched onto the new pavement. The details of the road closure and traffic switch are described below. These closures are part of the TxDOT widening project.
ROAD CLOSURES AND DETOURS
Main Street will be closed between Preston Road and Custer Road starting at 10:00 p.m. Friday night, October 3. As a result, Hillcrest Road will be closed just south of Main Street. Coit Road and Independence Parkway will both remain open in the north-south directions at Main Street, but no traffic will be able to turn onto Main Street. The roads will reopen by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, October 4.
During the road closure, Main Street traffic will be directed to use Preston Road, Eldorado Parkway, and Custer Road as a detour route around the road closure. Detour signs will be posted and late night/early morning motorists are urged to seek an alternate route in advance.
Traffic on northbound Hillcrest Road headed to Main Street will need to turn left or right onto Rolater Road in order to find a different route to their ultimate destination. Only local traffic will be able to stay on Hillcrest Road north of Rolater Road in order to access the neighborhoods south of Main Street or to reach the gas station at the corner of Main Street & Hillcrest Road, which will only be accessible by its driveway on Hillcrest Road.
Residents of the Cypress Creek neighborhood will only be able to access their neighborhood by traveling on Coit Road to reach Lyndhurst Drive or by traveling on Independence Parkway and then driving through Bacchus Community Park.
Sports teams driving to Bacchus Community Park before 8:00 a.m. on Saturday will need to approach the park on Independence Parkway and use the park entrance just south of Main Street. Motorists can use Rolater Road to reach Independence Parkway from areas south of Main Street, or they can use Eldorado Parkway to reach Independence Parkway from areas north of Main Street. Main Street will be open by the time the first round of soccer games are finished.
TRAFFIC SWITCH
When Main Street reopens on Saturday morning, all traffic will begin driving on the new concrete pavement. East and westbound traffic will now share the south half of the road so that the existing asphalt can be removed and new lanes can be reconstructed for the north half of the road.
After traffic is switched, motorists turning onto Main Street from a driveway or a side street should pay special attention to the new locations of stop signs and stop lines. (The edge of Main Street traffic will now be closer to any motorist traveling northbound out of a driveway.) Motorists at each of the signalized intersections should also pay special attention to the new location of turn lanes and stop lines. At the intersection of Main Street and Preston Road, the lanes on Main Street west of Preston Road will be shifted south in order to align with the new concrete lanes on east of Preston Road.
All motorists traveling along this segment of Main Street should pay special attention to the new roadway configuration and are urged to use caution in the construction zone as people become accustomed to the new traffic patterns.
