IHS Royals Hit the Ground Dancing

Frisco Independence High School drill team

The Frisco Independence High School drill team made quite a splash in their first year. The Royals, directed by Brittany Shaver, brought home a nice collection of awards in their first season.

The drill team faced 39 other teams at their first Regional competition on February 7, 2015, at the American Regionals at Rockwall Heath High School.  The Royals won Best Overall Precision, Techniques, Presentation, Choreography, and the Judges’ Award for all four of their routines.  They placed 2nd in Small Division, and 5th Overall – earning them an invitation to dance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The officers also won for Best Overall Presentation, Technique, Choreography, and the Judges’ Award, for all three of their routines.  They placed 2nd in the Small Division.  Haleigh Wilson won 4th Runner Up for her solo. Shayna Ambers won 3rd Runner Up for her solo.  Mrs. Shaver was honored with The Director’s Award.

The Royals then followed up with another successful competition on February 21, 2015, at the MA Regionals at Plano East Senior High School.  Again, the Royals earned the High Point Award for Choreography for all four routines. They placed 1st in the Small Team Division, and 3rd Place Overall.

The officers won High Point for Choreography for all three of their dances.  They won 1st Place in the Small Team Division.  Sarah Melton won 3rd Place for her solo.  Shayna Ambers won 1st Place for her solo.

Mrs. Shaver is rightfully “proud of how far the girls have come since May!” She says “the work ethic of the girls is every director’s dream” and she is “looking forward to see what the future holds for these young ladies.”
