When Hurts Donut Co. opened its doors in January at the northwest corner of Main and Teel, the whole city heard. People camped out for days before just to be among the first in DFW to chomp a Hurts Donut, (yes, pun intended). The lines continue to be out the door almost daily even with Hurts being open 24 hours a day.
Yep, welcome to PARADISE… a 24-Hour Donut Shop!
So, after waiting a few weeks, I decided to give this place a shot. Especially after a colleague got in and out of Hurts within 33 minutes in early February. I walked in the door at about 3PM on a Tuesday and voilà!… I was the fifth or sixth person in line.
Almost immediately, several things stood out about Hurts Donut. For one, COLOR! Their donuts are so bright, enticing, and “tricked out” that it’s pretty much a sensory overload every time you walk in the door.
Hurts scores huge points for having so many options and the selection can vary depending on time of day. So, as I gazed into the display cases chock full of confections, I saw several intriguing choices like the donut with peanut butter glaze and a pretzel on top to their huge fritters, which are only $3 each.
After contemplating their Maple and Bacon Long John donut, I ultimately heeded someone else’s recommendation… a donut topped with Andes Crème de Menthe candies. I got one of those along with a sausage roll, and all in my tab was just over $5. Time inside? Less than 15 minutes. Not bad.
So, just how was the Crème de Menthe donut? The chocolate cake was moist and the mint candies gave it a nice flavor, but for me, it was so sweet that I couldn’t finish the whole thing.
So, what’s the final verdict on Hurts? They definitely take pride in their over-sized donuts and create over 70 varieties on a rotation every day. Unique, delectable donuts, but I’m not sure I would wait in line for an hour or two for them. Hopefully, the donut frenzy in Frisco has now died down to a manageable level.
So, head over to Hurts Donut… with their exterior signage that changes colors at night, you can’t miss ’em!
