Getting away is on many of our wish lists right now, and stealing away to a cabin in the woods might be just the ticket. Imagine a haven that you and your family can enjoy where nature’s beauty and serenity are the ultimate surroundings.
Anyone interested in such a getaway would do well to take a peek at the remarkable properties offered by Glamcations.
Ten years ago, Frisco residents and founders of Glamcations, Monica and Marty Wood, had such a cabin in mind. Monica was pregnant with their first child in 2009 when the corporate position she held for 15 years was eliminated as a result of the market crash. A year later they would build their first cabin (home) in Hochatown, Oklahoma.
As a real estate broker in Texas and Oklahoma, Monica was able to bring together her love of real estate and her love of design. Marty’s first career provided him a background in drafting, so he would spend his evenings sketching out plans, fueled by his passion for design. With this perfect partnership, their hard work and creativity proved to have great potential.
A few years later, their itch to design again resulted in Vail’s Bluff. And by the time The Barndo was created, Monica and Marty had honed in on their personal style — and discovered that a getaway doesn’t have to sacrifice style and luxury.
During the last few years, the Woods have perfected the process, personalizing every detail from initial sketches to selecting every piece of furniture that goes into a property making it truly unique and truly memorable.
Passion for travel and culture took them to Tulum, Mexico, where they found not only breathtaking locations but amazing culture and history for their family to soak in. We asked Monica about some of the challenges early on:
I will say that over the last few years, the process has become easier, but I remember what it was like working in real estate full-time while having two children under five at home. My husband was in graduate school for Anesthesia to become a CRNA, and this required 70+ hours a week commuting from Frisco to Ft. Worth. He was unable to work while in the program and at the time, my mom had a massive stroke and we took over her care as she moved into a Nursing Home Facility.
Monica admits that for her, it’s all about relationships. As a Broker in Oklahoma, she delights in helping other families find their own cabins and showing them how to turn their vacation home into an investment that provides financial returns while they build memories with their loved ones. That’s a win-win.
As a boutique brokerage, Monica handles every aspect of a transaction, which she believes, makes a huge difference. The relationships forged with people and businesses in North Dallas and the Broken Bow community have earned her a title among her clients — the title of the “I got a guy” girl.
And this is very important to Monica, as she admits she never recommends someone she hasn’t worked with before. She wants to be able to vouch for their service as well as their customer service. This mindset applies to everyone from a handyman to a lender to a roofing company. She explains that she believes her customers deserve the very best, so her standards are high.
Frisco is a city of so many opportunities from starting a business, earning income, and raising a family. And that, according to Monica, is behind their love of Frisco. They have affiliations and connections to not only major league sports and teams but also are hosts to a ton of activities for children all around town.
So if your idea of a cabin in the woods evokes images of Lincoln’s log birthplace, with a dash of dust, a bit of dirt, and hopefully, an indoor shower, let me suggest that there’s an alternative for anyone looking for more. Glamcations offers more. There are three beautiful locations now with a fourth in the planning stages.
