Jo Alch, who is a Registered Nurse, founded the nonprofit Pajamas for Seniors. She saw firsthand that most elderly patients admitted to nursing homes only had one possession – a worn hospital gown. Necessities like a warm set of new pajamas were a rare luxury. With 16,000 nursing home residents in Dallas County alone nearly half of those residents have zero visitors. An overwhelming number of them live in low income/Medicaid facilities. These residents are given less than $60.00 per month from the government to cover things like personal toiletries and seasonal clothing, most of which we take for
granted.
Pajamas for Seniors delivers new pajamas donated by individuals, schools, civic organizations and businesses throughout DFW. Our nonprofit delivers new pajamas to seniors all year-round, not just over the holidays! During 2019 we have delivered thousands of pajamas with the help of donations from generous people around the country.
Pajamas for Seniors wants to make sure that the seniors in our communities are not forgotten. Giving a new pair of pajamas is such a simple gesture, and yet it truly brings such happiness to seniors that often feel isolated and lonely.
