Lone Star HS – QB M.J. Rivers
Like his predecessor, Rivers will be taking his dual-threat talents to an even grander stage next season, that of an NCAA Division I power—and you’d better believe Illinois is glad to have him onboard.
After all, the Prestonwood Christian transfer made quite a show of his senior season, as he threw for 2,955 yards, with a 29:6 interception to touchdown ratio, while running for 1,082 yards with an additional 23 scores. With numbers like that, it’s no wonder that Lone Star raced all the way to the UIL Regional Finals this season.
Last MVP: QB Jason Shelley
Shelley was a force while with the Rangers; he was nominated for multiple Lifestyle Frisco MVPs* and is currently the next great QB for Utah.
Reedy HS – RB Justin Gipson
It’s not like QB Josh Foskey didn’t have an MVP-caliber season; but Gipson, a senior, had one of the best years of a running back in the district, one that is stocked with premium rushers. Also, Foskey, a junior, will be back next year and you’d better believe he’ll be an early MVP favorite.
All told, Gipson rushed for 1,321 yards with 20 TDs as he helped the Reedy Lions reel off one of the best sophomore seasons in recent memory.

No, it’s not that no player was deserving of an MVP last year, it’s just that we didn’t cover the 2016 season, and the Lions’ first season was that same year.
Wakeland HS – QB Dylan Cadwallader
Like the aforementioned Foskey, Cadwallader had a huge year, and still has his senior season to do it again. Connecting on 67% of passes, Cadwallader tossed for 2,855 yards with a whopping 40 TDs, against just 8 INTs.
Last MVP: RB Jay Orji
Orji had a monster senior year for the Wolverines in 2015, and last we heard he was considering playing college ball at Stephen F. Austin, or possibly Central Arkansas which would make sense as he was born in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Centennial HS – RB Hunter Williams
In a district with a ton of excellent runners, Williams might have had the best season of the bunch. He rushed for 1,379 yards, equaling 7.3 yards per carry, with just shy of double-digit scores (9).
Last MVP: RB Anthony Pegues
Pegues is currently playing football for the Bobcats of Montana State. Here’s hoping he packed some warm clothes!
Independence HS – RB Logan Brungardt
Lots of juniors on this list which is very exciting not just this year, but for next year as well. RB Logan Brungardt will return once again, and he’ll look to improve on a season that was very solid. Brungardt rushed for 835 yds, going an average six-yards per carry, with 12 TDs—all while also patrolling the field on defense as a strong safety.
Last MVP: QB Kyle Saddler
The Knights’ captain in both his junior and senior season, QB Kyle Saddler is currently playing pigskin for the Augustana Vikings, an NCAA Division II school (NSIC) in South Dakota.
Heritage HS – RB Khalil Harris
When QB Amare Jones (Tulane) was lost to injury, the Coyotes became Harris’ team, and he delivered, racking up 955 yards rushing with 10 TDs, while averaging over seven yards per carry (7.3).
Last MVP: Amare Jones
Jones was off to yet another excellent season when a leg injury ended his senior season. You’d better believe that the Tulane commit will be back better than ever next year.
Liberty HS – WR Keavon Wright
Just a sophomore, RedHawks WR Keavon Wright showed that Liberty’s future is bright. Wright put up 526 yards receiving, good for a ridiculous 20.2 yards per catch and found his way into the end zone for seven touchdowns.
Last MVP: Chris McPhaul
McPhaul is currently averaging 15 yards per catch for Cisco College.
Frisco High School – RB Bryson Clemons
The Raccoons had a rough 2017 campaign. It wasn’t just the tough losses on the scoreboards, it was also key losses to their starting lineup, with a multitude of injuries to blame. Through it all, Clemons, in just his second year of high school, weathered the storm and put up impressive numbers with 612 yards rushing and six TDs.
Last MVP: Idrees Ali
FB Idrees Ali had no trouble claiming an MVP after his awesome junior season. The decision was made even simpler thanks to runs like this one.
Legacy Christian Academy – WR Connor Griffith
One of just two WRs on this list, Griffith averaged a gaudy 19.2 yards per catch with 422 yards and seven receiving TDs. Sounds like an MVP-caliber performance to me!
