Unless you’ve been to Oktoberfest in Munich, you may not know what you’re in for… As the Official Media Sponsor of Frisco Oktoberfest, we can offer you a quick bit of history:
Why is Oktoberfest in September?
It began with the Royal Wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig) to Princess Therese on October 12, 1810. Five days after the marriage, a large festival was held in front of one of the gates leading to Munich.
That festival became an annual celebration and Oktoberfest was born. In Munich, Oktoberfest begins in September and lasts for 16 days. It always finishes on the first Sunday in October (when the weather is milder).
What activities will be happening at Frisco Oktoberfest?
The event will kick off with a traditional tapping of the keg with by Mayor Jeff Cheney and Lifestyle Frisco’s own Scott Ellis at 5:00 pm sharp. They’ll tap the keg and serve the first biers of the day!
Bryan Linder of Linder Legacy Group will emcee the inaugural Oktoberfest!
A variety of entertainment awaits you including:
- brat eating competition (6 pm)
- stein-hoisting contest (8:15 pm) – 100% of the proceeds go to Frisco FastPacs
- keg rolling contest (6 pm, 7 pm, 8 pm)
- climbing wall for kids
- live music
- dancers (careful they might pull you up to join in)
- …and more.
You’re welcome to bring blankets and hang out on Simpson Plaza to enjoy the shows. If it’s anything like the music played at the Munich Oktoberfest, you can count on traditional polka classics and rock covers.
Performing bands on the schedule include PolkaMeisters, Texanischer Schuhplattler Verein d’Holzar, and High Definition Band.
