Have you ever been to a consignment sale? Or, are you interested in being a consignor? What about supporting two local ladies and moms at the Frisco Kids Consignment?
Frisco Kids Consign (FKC) specializes in high-quality, gently worn children’s clothing from newborn to teens, plus maternity clothing, shoes, toys, books, games, DVDs, baby equipment, kid’s sports equipment, and furniture.
I first discovered this event a couple of years back while helping a friend put together her stock and I realized it was a bargain heaven for expectant mothers, as well as moms with kids of all ages. I became a consignor in Fall 2013, a task that seemed daunting at first, but I was soon hooked with FKC’s oh-so-simple process.
This year, two new local ladies have taken over the business: Kristin Gregg and Jaclyn Whisenant. East Frisco residents and past consignors themselves, they recoginized that the opportunity to take over FKC was a perfect next step and allowed them to apply their skills to such a great local Frisco business.
FKC presents a unique experience for both sellers and shoppers twice a year. Kids grow so fast that many of their outgrown items still seem brand new, and they seem constantly in need of replacements. This event can provide the opportunity to make money selling those outgrown items, as well as to buy high-quality, gently-used items at a greatly reduced price.
Sports equipment, for example, is so expensive,” Jaclyn explained, “so while one kid no longer plays a particular sport, another family is looking for a bargain – win-win!
One of their first tasks was to find new premises to host the sale, as the usual venue of Frisco Discovery Center is currently being re-modeled. Having looked at venues all over the city, they found a perfect option at the Old Wooden Swing premises near Stonebriar mall, just off Gaylord Parkway.
“We are so excited and can see the interest has grown, hand-in-hand with the increasing Frisco population,” says Kristin. In the past few weeks there has been a 35% growth in people joining the FKC Facebook page alone, and people are registering from neighboring cities like Prosper, McKinney, Celina, and Aubrey.
This spring/summer event will takeplace over three days, Friday May 29, through Sunday, May 31. For the first time ever, FKC is partnering with Frisco Moms (or find them on facebook) in a fundraising effort. Frisco Moms members can gain access to the Thursday Pre-Sale at a designated time by donating an item that is currently a high priority “in need” item.
Whether it’s detergent for Frisco Family Services, diapers for Fast Pacs, or other designated urgent products, at the end of the sale, FKC will host a special sale event for the Frisco Moms Sister Moms Group (a hand-me-downs project serving local moms that need help the most). Items that have not sold at the sale and marked as “donate” by consignors will be set aside for a very special private sale for these families on the Sunday evening where they can shop for free. Kristin explains, “This allows us to give back more to the community and provide end-of-sale donations to worthy cases.”
If you’re looking to turn those lightly-worn, outgrown items in your child’s closet into cash, then this is the event for you! And, your neighbors might even thank you for not holding your own garage sale. As a consignor, you earn a high percentage in sales, and can also increase your percentage by volunteering for short shifts during the sale.
Remember, if you’re a first-time parent and want an exclusive view of the sale, just register online for free.
So, reach way back into the far regions of those closets and get consigning! If you’re not up to that, just mark your calendar for some major shopping and great savings on those baby and kid essentials. FKC is the perfect place to score super deals on the brand-name children’s clothing and baby gear you love. Entry to the sale is completely FREE!
